Juan Mourep

Vital 1st Team Regular
In early 2014, the World Health Organization (WHO) called for a reduction of daily sugar intake to 5% of total daily calories in order to tackle public health problems, such as obesity and tooth decay.

Nutritionists strongly recommend against consuming more than 13 teaspoons a day.

How many teaspoons a day do you have?

I have an 4 apples per week,so max is 2.6
I have half a pineapple on a wed and half on a thurs,so max is 0.63
I have half a tomato a day,so max is 0.35.
Total 3.6.

I don`t have anything else on that list.
I`ve never been a pudding person.
I knocked all the chocolate bars, sweets and fizzy pop on the head about 12 months ago.
And working nights I don`t know what "breakfast" is.

If, however, an egg contained sugar.......now that would be a different kettle of fish.
I probably have 8 boiled eggs per week (all uncracked, thanks to Masterchef Fear who told me to use vinegar when boiling).
I have 4 poached eggs per week and about 4 scrambled.

Yeah, I'm more of a weekly as I don't eat anything every day consecutively.

I don't eat chocolate bars..... I may have one, but very seldom.
I have a plastic bottle of Coca Cola about once a month. However, I do drink orange cordial....@ three glasses a day.
I also drink 2/3 'glasses' of Iced Lemon Tea per day which does have a teaspoon of sugar in.
I have Cornflakes for breakfast with no sugar sprinkled over.... about 2/3 times a week.
I don't eat cake or desserts, but I do have a pot of yoghurt about 3 times a week.
I have no sugar in tea (hot) or coffee, sometimes have @ 6 biscuits with a coffee in the morning, but not every morning.

So, on the whole, I'd guess on average, about 10 spoons a day.

There is a glaring omission on that list. How much sugar is there is Vimto?

I gotta cut down on my suger intake it is that simple, or will end up diabetic i fear

Thanks for that Juan. I have Copied & Pasted it. It is a great referral too. I don't do any of them everyday, bar the orange/type squash. It's a good check for me

As you are no doubt aware John, Vimto has been found to be the modern equivalent of the Ambrosia and Nectar referred to in ancient mythology as for the Gods, as such it is exempt from the restrictions placed upon earthly beverages.

Joking aside, I made a conscious effort to cut down massively on my sugar intake..... and was then told my aspartame intake was too high.

It was at that point I thought, bollox to it all.

Fair enough mate, it's not like you have anything worth living a long and healthy life for is it? It's not like you really need to be a positive role model to an impressionable child is it, but then again, what's the worst that can happen, fat in school and bullied isn't so bad, at least it's not you eh, you might even make it to your kids wedding, if you're lucky you may even witness a grandchild who will no doubt carry on the family "tradition" of not looking after themselves and eating shit.

You now have responsibilities Deano, you now have the chance to give a child the best possible start in life, the gift of health & fitness, the knowledge of what is good for you and what isn't, this is an essential skill in this day and age, if doing it for yourself wasn't enough motivation for you, I hope that fatherhood pushes the right buttons, it did for me.

And of course, the bonus to all of this, your cardigans will fit better!

:17:

Varies but I could make more of an effort.

I don't add sugar to coffee anymore and changed to decaf - didn't really notice the effect, unfortunately I use sweetener, got to cut it out.

I like a chocolate bar occasionally, I like snickers but I also like twix so I'll swap.

I don't eat cereal, I'm reducing my pop intake.

My problem is I love ice cream. Yum. Mint choc chip.

I had a knee op recently but have vowed to excersise more once it's healed. And eating healthier is on my to do list.

Confession time, and to be honest I am truly ashamed.
07:30 - Kit Kat (214c 22g of sugar) and Wispa Gold (260c 24g of sugar)
10:00 - 2 x Kit Kat (428c 44g of sugar) Snickers (245c 22g of sugar)
13:00 - Twix (200c 20g of sugar) Sandwich (white bread ?? of sugar)
17:00 - Multi pack Milky Way crispy rolls 5 x 25g (640c 70g of sugar)
Wispa (210c 21g of sugar)
20:30 - Chinese Chicken Curry, Chips, Spring roll, BBQ sauce.
I think I'm in trouble :181:
Grand Total..... approx 5295 Calories... 'of which sugars' = 260g I don't know what 'of which sugars' or how many teaspoons it is?? (223g in the chocolate alone). I don't normally eat this much, but I do have 5 to 8 chocolate bars a day. I have emptied my vans floor of todays choc bars and took a photo to prove what a pig I am. I was 11stone 6lbs in August, I now weigh 13 stone 6 lbs, thats 2 stones added in 6 months...I may be starting on the Cardio/Weight loss thread soon.

Are those crispy rolls nice, never tried them.

I also prefer kit Kat chunky to the original ones.

My favourite at the moment is probably a lion bar.

Crispy rolls are very nice Lewis, the 14g of carbs 'of which sugars' is not so good (omg, who am I to preach?). After reading this thread and watching the video on the medicalnewstoday site I am gonna try to cut out sugar :36:

the knowledge of what is good for you and what isn't, this is an essential skill in this day and age,

and here in lies the problem.

I tend to find if you ask 10 different people you get 10 different opinions on what is good and bad for you, that's what frustrates me.

Obviously I was being fecicious earlier. I do try to look after myself as best I can, but I do get confused with all the conflicting advice too. I try to avoid sugar, but then I get told aspartame is the devil...

The obvious choice... drink water. But some of us find that boring. I drink it ocassionally. I don't dislike it. But variety is the spice of life, sometimes I want a tasty drink and they tend to have either sugar or aspartame, so which is the lesser of the 2 evils?

I try... I swear I do... but it is so confusing with everyone giving different advice.

.half decent programme on bbc catch up....

The truth about sugar

Worth watching for those who are a bit oblivious to how much sugar they are eating.

Sugar is the lesser of the two evils, just! At the moment Stevia is the in thing, so you can avoid both!

It's part of my job, I do my utmost to keep up to date with the available research, my only concern is the health of you and yours, I have no hidden agenda, I don't take payments off corporations for pushing their shit, although lucozade, powerade and coke cola offered me "incentives" to do so at my gym.

You'll have Dr this and Prof that telling you that aspartame, fluoride etc etc are all perfectly safe for you, they earn a wage from doing so.
