If I've been asked this once, I've been asked or it's been raised 100 times in the last few weeks....
So, in case anyone is wondering here as well :
Under the new squad-cost ratio rules (SCR) clubs are allowed to spend up to 85% of their revenue on player costs - player wages, amortisation and agent fees etc.
In our last set of accounts (2024-25), wages and amortisation was only around 60%, and this included all salaries.
Clubs do not separate between playing and non-playing staff, although Uefa says that normally about 75% of total wage costs go towards a club's first team. they do however still have to register all contracts and financial details with the PL and FA, and some sites have an uncanny knack of reporting what is supposed to be confidential.
In addition, with our stadium, which can host up to 30 non-football events a year at full capacity, and this as originally planned is proving to be as beneficial as I and others believed it could/would eventually be. It's why almost any stadium that can afford to be developed is trying to do the same...
The old White Hart Lane ground, annual matchday revenue was circa £45m and commercial income - which includes concerts and NFL games - was circa £73m. So it doesn't take much to see it's growing impact.
Now our latest stadium income figures are approx £126m and £277m, respectively, (in 2024-25) The additional money flowing into the club allows us to spend more under the SCR regime. This will make a lot of other PL clubs sick to watch, as they cannot hope to match it - but finally, as we are now witnessing, our owners have taken the shackles off and injecting the cash to let the club take risks and take advantage of what it's built.
While the club has spent a lot of money this summer to date, transfer fees are amortised over the length of the contract, but all now limited to five years (after the Chelsea chavs shenanigans of recent years), so a £240-300m spend this summer equates to a £48-60m amortisation fee. That said, I suspect our net spend will be around half of that.
Our revenue for 2024/25 was £565m, so under these Squad Cost Ratio rules we could spend up to £480m a year on our squad. Are we crazy enough to risk doing that now - I suspect not.
But, if the cash is there, we have plenty of headroom for more spending now and next year..
It's being said RDZ thinks he has won the lottery, now perhaps you can see why he took the risk of taking us on last season and saving us...
