Alan Pardew will return to Upton Park this afternoon as an older and wiser manager compared to the one who was shown the door in unfortunate circumstances.

Shortly after former Hammers chairman Terence Brown had sold the club to Icelandic businessman Eggert Magnússon seven years ago, Pardew was sacked in the aftermath of a 4-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers.

That was just months after coming within seconds of delivering West Ham’s first piece of silverware in just over quarter of a century as Steven Gerrard’s stunning goal in te FA Cup final in Cardiff forced a 3-3 draw – the Londoners then beaten on penalties.

If that was harsh for Pardew, being sacked as Magnusson opted for his own man at the helm in Alan Curbishley was also a bitter pill to swallow.

Pardew did not hit out after his dismissal but did say at the time: “The West Ham supporters have stood by me and I will always cherish memories of their support and loyalty during the difficulties of this season.”

Morning Detective Sarge, nah the reason Pardew got sacked here was for poor results not just that Bolton game, our first 18 games gleaned only 17 points and we were in the bottom three, also you had the behind the scenes stuff of him shagging around with the wives of a player and someone from the backroom staff.
