Metal spikes to prevent rough sleepers placed outside a London housing complex have caused a storm online with some comparing them to pigeon deterrents.

As a former Street Sleeper I express my sincere disgust at those who installed this monstrosity! #AntiHomelessSpikes pic.twitter.com/BQ9gVEg57p

Residents of the apartment block on Southwark Bridge Road say they appeared shortly after a homeless person had been sleeping there.

One told the Telegraph: "There was a homeless man asleep there about six weeks ago.

"Then about two weeks ago all of a sudden studs were put up outside.

"I presume it is to deter homeless people from sleeping there."

"It is a scandal that anyone should sleep on the streets in 21st century Britain.

"Yet over the last three years rough sleeping has risen steeply across the country and by a massive 75% in London.

"Behind these numbers are real people struggling with a lack of housing, cuts to benefits and cuts to homelessness services to help them rebuild their lives.

"They might have suffered a relationship breakdown, a bereavement or domestic abuse. They deserve better than to be moved on to the next doorway along the street.

"We will never tackle rough sleeping with studs in the pavement. Instead we must deal with the causes."

They fail to mention that an increasing number of homeless are in fact ex serviceman, and that is a national disgrace, you put your life on the line for your country, possibly suffer from the mental stresses for the rest of your life, I believe this country owes them more than just a bed and they rarely get that.

Well, that sounds quite disgraceful though what do you expect from Cameron and Osbourne's food bank Britain and their populist dialogue of "workers versus shirkers". If only these poor chaps worked a bit harder.

The pigeon excuse :3:

Yes, very high percentage now, I believe, are said to be ex military.

Bring them home having fecked them up, then wash your hands.

Lovely country we are at times.

oh and with the amount of empty buildings AND the wealth in this country, is it really necessary to have any totally homeless?

You walk a mile from the Queens disgraceful wealth and into cardboard city in London.

Not even chalk and cheese that, its an embarrassment to a so called civilised society.

So what is it you want to do? If we tax the rich more as to hand out more benefits - then you are taking away ones freedom and liberty. Hey you, give me your money!

Free market, free world, freedom and liberty for all - if the good hearted want to help the needy(I do as often as I can) let them do it by choice, not force! Taxation and control dosnt work, stop blaming David Cameron and expecting more, more and more bloody govern control over the people. Hands off is what the people need from a government - we dont want an air tax, plastic bag tax, junk food tax etc etc. People should start living their "own" lives, taking their "own" responsibilities for their "own" decisions.

Stop blaming the government like you want them to wipe your ass!

If it's a private apartment block there is nothing wrong with it. If I was a landlord I wouldn't want my tenants to come home and find a tramp catching 40 winks on their doorstep.

Nobody owes these people anything either. They have to sort themselves out in the end which is something a lot of them don't want to do.

They rob everybody that earns their crust. The sooner they privatise the lot and allow a free market, the better.

The flipside sadly is that if you are running a business, or have a private residence, sadly, you don't want someone sleeping rough on your doorstep, or pissing etc there. It is harsh, but I wouldn't at Fear Towers, then again, the hounds of hell wouldn't really make them welcome anyway.

However, the problem SHOULD be solvable for a so called advanced country like ours. Help in the community didn't help this at all either. Very sad way to treat people.

Very poor , but in my opinion a result of policies bought in by a government comprised mainly of Old Etonions who simply have no idea or no pity for anyone who finds themselves down on their luck.

I would willingly wipe that permanent sneer of Gideon Osbornes face.

Decisions should be made with all the facts available, you are not free to live your own life, you can't live where you want, you can't claim some land and build a house, you can't even buy your own land and do as you please, you can't be free from government legislation, you can't make your own decisions because they are influenced by government legislation and statutes of one form or another.

I will not stop blaming the government, who else's bloody fault is it? Neither do I want them to wipe my arse, but they are more than welcome to kiss it.

This country generates more than enough money to look after those ex military homeless generated by it's previous legal and currently unlawful actions, enough to look after the rest of the homeless, enough to have good schooling, a competent and efficient NHS, enough to support our benefits system, enough to support leading scientists in their work, enough to support first time buyers, enough to support more business start ups, more than enough to return us to the status of Great Britain.

The government are supposedly in control, but we have large corporations making money out of our population and dodging paying the taxes the rest of us have to pay, you have major "contributions" to the EU, you have faceless Euro bureaucrats dictating policy in our country, you have a banking system that is a complete and utter con, you have the less fortunate stamped on repeatedly while those with money or the right friends seem to dodge more hurdles than the rest of us.

And you say "Stop blaming the government" :3:

Seriously?

I disagree. As stated, many are ex military, others reached a certain age and lost control of their mental functioning, others were forced onto the streets by debt.

Or in other words, they have all paid into the same system as us in one way or another, there is no way that you can live in this country and not contribute, everything is taxed!

So in my opinion, they are owed, the ex military have earned it, the others have paid into it, why shouldn't they qualify to get something back?

Exactly Juan - we have reaped what we sown. Create a nanny state and you will inherit such - we actually reward breeding. Having children makes you money from the good old government. No, no, no, you dont need take on that responsibility yourself of rearing your own offspring - the government(nanny) will do it for you. Its a farce!

By the way the country generates nothing - its the people that generate the money. Free market!

Give me your money!
