Holty

Vital 1st Team Regular
Holty for over fifty years I’ve followed the fortunes of our beloved football club
You are undoubtedly up there with the best of Norwich legends down the years
Not just for your abilities or lack of in some cases
It was sheer guts and determination to draw the best from the team whatever the outcome
You must have been special in that dressing room
Bring back that magic to the lads you coach
And I as many would agree want to see you as our gaffer one day

Agree Suffolk.
I have seen more talented strikers over 50 years I have being regularly watching games but probably none of them as tough, committed and bringing rest of an average team in cases, up to play way beyond their
natural abilities as Holty did.
I have seen Curran, MacDougall, Boyer, Reeves, Fashanau, Deehan,
Channon, Drinkell, Fleck, Sutton and Roberts and maybe just Flecky can challenge Holty for sheer effort and determination.

Could you say that once Holt's head turned (not to play for us) that was the start of our downfall or was it Lambert (Culverhouse and Karsa) leaving? I had this discussion with a friend the other day.

Simply the best striker we have ever had ,and I hope he is our manager one day teaching his team to play with attacking fight, passion and determination instead of the boring tippy tappy shite we endured for nearly the whole game on Wednesday night

Interesting question, Bears. I think there were lots of reasons for our downfall and Lambert leaving was a catalyst but also think we had a special dynamic with lower league players and not a proven star among them. That got us up to the PL by playing as a team and for each other. Once we started buying the likes of RvW and Fer the dynamic changed and suddenly the likes of Pilkington, Surman and Crofts are looking at blokes who are earning double (or more) than they are. Hughton’s tactics made Holt less effective in his final year with us and that was that. Never recovered from that but it must be very hard to buy in bigger and better players and integrate them among much lower paid lads. Thoughts?

Not decrying what Lambert achieved
With us for one minute
And this fan will always be grateful
But I’ve always maintained that Karsa and Culverhouse were the power behind the throne
You’re right when you said Hughtons tactics stifled Holty in the end
Good Post Tuckster

He truly is a LEGEND - he has earnt that status. As did Hucks.
Can Holty be cloned and made fifteen years younger? :rotfl:

I trump you with Ron Davies, Gordon Bolland, Peter Sylvester, Dave Cross, The Count! Terry Alcock, John Manning, Laurie Sheffield and Martin Chivers

But HOLTY is a LEGEND for pulling this club up the divisions and being a talisman for the side.

Iwan Roberts, Chris Sutton, Dean Ashton, Justin Fashan,...All legends and incidently I have seen all previous ones mentioned, Martin Peters was of course a midfielder and not an out and out striker...Ron Davies was probably the clubs first major screw up for his Transfer fee.
