Holiday?

The Fear - 28/10/2013 17:30

I'm not looking for love, I'm looking to be left the feck alone!!!! lol

Monsoon season, noted... would be about right for me that!

Don't you live alone? You could stay at home, turn off your phone and save a grand. Genius!

No sunshine mate and no discipline, at home = work!

But I might try a couple of weeks 'off' I guess!

Egypt, Sharm El Sheihk would be pretty much perfect for what you want Fear.

There's not much to do outside of the resorts themselves, but it doesn't sound like you want to do anything in terms of sight seeing etc?

The resorts in the main are superb quality, the staff very friendly and we found it came up cheaper than Cyprus/Greece etc...

If all you want to do is sit by the pool, relax, and eat good food I'd recommend it. Only problem we had was building works, so maybe just do a bit of research before you book to make sure there's nothing going on.

Good shout.

As said, think I'll go to that travel agent we used for South Africa, they seemed pretty switched on didn't they!?

Only other plan is to spend a bit more on a new car but that won't really give me a break! Can't decide if I'll get bored or not!

The Fear - 27/10/2013 17:09

Thinking of trying to get away for a holiday once I've got a certain contract business wise sorted this week.

I haven't had a holiday for nearly three years, I wouldn't have been able to fly last year with the brain ache flair up (was too ill anyway, but the pressure in plane makes it worse in my cavity at back of head)

I would imagine I will be on my tod, as most mates have had holidays or are married etc. just want to switch off and when I try to have a holiday from home, I carry on working, my discipline isn't great.

I don't want to do much, chill, sun, pool, nice views, beach maybe.

Any ideas where would be decent this time of year? Don't need clubs etc!

Could spend up to a thousand quid I guess. Tentatively had a quick look at Bali and Cape Verde, but not been to a travel agent yet. Found a few who specialise in holidays for singles ie for hotels that don't charge obscene single supplements.

My one fear is going and being pestered by people seeing me on my own, I don't like joining strangers and doing small talk, not my nature!!

I'm not def going as I also need a deposit for a new car for march, but very tempted. If not now, the thread could give me a few ideas for later.

Thread for sensible suggestions to start with please!!

Ibiza - Sargamasa. Quiet part of the island. Little beach cove, no clubs or bars. Just your hotel, pool and a nice little restaurant on the beach. Weather from November to Spring is 15 deg with cloud but readily shoots up to 25 deg. Some rainy spells but generally a nice peaceful winter sojourn without the madness that you get in the Canaries.

:14:

Alternately, I suggest that you find some long term female company. Surely there's a Mrs Fear out there...somewhere?

Nah, not for me mate, biggest commitment I've ever made is a bag for life, she didn't like being called that so it all ended.

Think I'm too long in the tooth now and the ladies of my generation really don't do it for me, or the nice ones are taken!

Nice suggestion, but if I go, I'll really only go somewhere I know will be proper hot and little to no chance of cloud/rain etc. If I have a holiday like my last one I think I'd jump off the nearest cliff!

Thats the dilema isn't it, about getting bored.

I always say I wanna go away and relax for 2 weeks, then after 2 days I get itchy feet and wanna go jet skiing or on a speed boat or sightseeing etc..

Depends how good you are at keeping yourself entertained. If you are one of those people who can get immeresed in a good book, or just lie there listening to your iPod while you get waited on hand and foot then you'll be fine.

Yeah, spend a good deal of time on my own so can't see it being any different really! lol

But here I do have the computer and tv to talk to.

:12:

The Greek isles are alsways worth looking at too mate..... but if you book any of those then i would reccommend booking it through olympic holidays

He said he wants to relax. Can't see him wanting to throw Javelins, run the 100m hurdles or take part in a triathalon you silly man.

haha. Zante is really nice. Loads of relaxing boat trips etc. Just not sure about the weather there this time of year.

The majority of the Greek Islands close down for the winter at this time of the year. The weather can't be relied on at this time of the year either, their. I would have suggested it otherwise, only with Katelios, Kefelonia, as that is where we go every year.

You won't get anywhere quieter to relax, more beautiful, nor will you be bothered if you don't want to be. It is totally 'stop the world and get off'

Beautiful beautiful spiritual place, where you can stop the world, and get off. A place that people who go return year in year out as we do. Never thought I would ever do that with anywhere until we went their.

Of anything of the Greek culture at this time of the year Cyprus is the best choice for weather and is open all year round.

The mainland will be open but the Islands all close down generally speaking

Sorry J but I can be of no help as I am still a bit of a party animal I love the hustle and bustle type holiday but one place I really want to get to is Aruba looks great to me.

went to cyprus in ocober onse, it was for my sisters wedding. Pissed down all week apart from the wedding day. And the bars etc were closed. This was limosol (sp)

dont go to cyprus lol

If you dont want to go too far but want hot weather, good beaches, silence, relaxation etc then the Seychelles would likely tick all the boxes. Around a 10 hour flight time from the UK, which isnt bad. It will be hot this time of year(December is the hottest month) where as BB said, in Asia it is monsoon season.

Advantages - weather, Its English speaking, no "British bars to worry about", noone bothering you selling sunglasses as you lie on the beach, can do things in your own time, food is great, people very friendly, easy to get to...

Disadvantages - can be boring on your own unless you like scuba diving, can be expensive, can be very humid this time year.

The Seychelles would be a cheaper and nearer option to Bora Bora.

Holidays alone are just not good. My wife died in 1996 and I tried going away a couple of times. Went to Corfu the year after. Its just not the same not being able to share the experience. So now just dont bother.
