Tottenham must seize their moment to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League title, says White Hart Lane legend Glenn Hoddle.

Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Heung-min Son (twice) all scored as Spurs eased to a comfortable 4-0 home victory over Watford on Saturday, with Mauricio Pochettino able to give Harry Kane a valuable 30 minutes on his surprise early return from injury.

Kieran Trippier - the stand-in for No.1 choice Kyle Walker - was awarded man of the match following a fine display, though Spurs' joy was cut short on Saturday evening as Chelsea restored their seven-point advantage with seven games to go following a 3-1 win at Bournemouth.

Despite Tottenham being unable to make ground on Chelsea this weekend, former Spurs and England boss Hoddle believes that the manner of their victory over Watford points to a bright future for the club.

Tottenham’s plan is to bid farewell to their current home in May, playing home matches at Wembley next season before moving into their 61,000-seat stadium – a project costing £800million – for the 2018-19 campaign.

But Hoddle says the club's owners - ENIC International - and chairman Daniel Levy must be bold enough in the transfer market to avoid losing stars such as Kane and Alli, while also seeking to attract more top names to north London.

"The pressure has got to be put on the owners. On ENIC... on [Daniel] Levy," he told BT Sport.

"It is Tottenham's moment here, they've got a new stand coming, the best training ground, a fantastic manager, a great squad. Don't sell your best players... they're keeping hold of their best players.

"Add to the squad. If you get situations where some of these players in the first XI now, next season or the season after are on the bench coming on, that's the standard that Tottenham have got to go to.

"Tottenham's future history could be the best that the club has ever seen."

I think Levy will have one of the worst long hot summers of his tenure - the pressure wave building on agents and then players to push for a move will be enormous and is continuing to grow - in some area's it's already happening, one or two agents are licking their lips are teh prospect of pocketing millions and millions if they can pull one of these deals off..

Levy will be offered eye watering head spinning money for at least three, possibly four of our players, turning them down, convincing agents and players he will not budge and will not sell may bring about his finest hour.

He may also have to delve deeper and the 'bravery' may well be giving players who've recently signed enhanced contracts even bigger ones to make them stick.

If I was him, I'd go to his home in Florida, turn all the phones off, keep off the email and pretend the World doesn't exist for 3 months.. :10:

Which players are putting the pressure on?

Also we have the stadium to pay for so any crazy money offers could be tempting. Ex is right its gonna be a tense summer.

As for signings I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's their agents Kiny, the bongo drums are being banged across Europe, clubs are now looking at our entire team and trying to work out what's their strategy for extracting them. Agents tell players (and are) that come the end of the season (even if they had a recent new deal) that they can get them much much more elsewhere - just consider the statement Manure have made paying Lingard (an unproven player) £100k a week and then consider we're not yet paying Kane that....

Could make a case for all of our first 11 making 100k+ elsewhere not to mention what Alli and Kane would be offered.

As for Glenn saying Levy needs to be brave. Bravery was never his issue. Was brave to leave Kane as our only recognised striker last season. Braver still to spend 30M on Sissoko. He was brave when he loaned our all our squad players a few januaries ago leaving HR with no decent backup when injuries hit. Brave to push for the title with Saha and Nelsen. We need him to be clever, not brave.

Spot on, although I see the irony.

Replace 'Brave' with 'Stupid'!

I think one of the biggest challenges is that whenever we've lost our best players we seem to have gone backwards. Guys like Carrick, Berbatov, Modric and Bale were hard to replace and it upset the team balance.

We're starting to show that we can lose players like Rose, Wanyama, Dembele, Kane etc and we just keep going at the same levels as before. We just need more of that so the competition for places gets even tougher.

We also need to realise that losing one player won't be the beginning of the end for this team. It will just move us to the next chapter.

The world is littered with people who have tried to pressure Daniel Levy.

Maybe I'm stupid, but I honestly believe none of our top players will leave unless they agitate for a move.
We have players that are hungry and committed, Levy knows there is more money in consistent CL qualification. We have player that can consistently get us there earning maybe 50% of their true market value, he would be stupid to sell any of them. I don't believe he's stupid.

We're not too bad as we are, just need a striker.....

If Levy needs pressure mounted on him, it's to keep what we have. I think Pochettino will train up what we have. I feel that around every corner a player gets better. Trippier seemed to get a new lease of life against Watford. For me it's Alli that needs a bit of tightening up despite everyone saying how great he is. If Pochettino can get the players around the 'skying' of the ball over the bar etc, then we will get better stats.

We've made great progress, after all we beat the best team in the league 2-0. Where I feel we dropped off was against Liverpool. We missed a good chance there to better our chances of winning the league. Those games need analysis which I'm sure Pochettino has done and what's more I don't think it will happen again.

So, just a striker?

I have said before anyone making the mistakes he has should have been sacked. Just by appointing so many failed managers. Financially though he seems to be doing his job which is obviously more important.

It will be Levy's finest hour if he recognizes that what we have now, is the foundation of a PL winning squad and manager.
Spurs will never reach the highs we all wish for if we work hard to achieve a winning formula, then simply sell it.
Now, more than ever, with the new stadium and the new invigorated Spurs, under Poch, we need to galvanize our strengths, invest in a few more key role players, and work with what we have.
And what we have is the best we've had in many many years.

This can be the turning point we've all waited for, for decades. Thing is, take away one or two of these fine cogs and we're back to the Spurs of old. Poch has done a tremendous job with pulling our "family" together. You get the feeling there is not one bitter feud, or disagreement within the ranks, which at this level, is very rare.

C'mon Levy, keep the team together, and allow Poch to take us to the next level, the likes of what we've never seen at Spurs, certainly since I've been a Yid (1978).

What TOP player has ever made it clear he wants to stay with us but Levy has said 'fuck you, you're off.... I want the money?' Can't really think of any. Those who have gone in past have made it clear they wanted to play for someone else and virtually 'downed tools' to get the move they wanted.

Maybe I'm naive but I think these young guys would prefer what they have right now with their mates than dollar signs (or is that pound signs?). Besides, they are young and shouldn't feel pressured to move on at this stage in their career. Kane even said, "It would be stupid to leave now. We've got one of the best coaches in the world [Mauricio Pochettino] -- maybe the best. We'll have a new stadium soon. The future is bright."

One thing that is very different with us now though is that it's not the players as individuals we rely on, it's the group as an entire unit. Big money could be spent on any one of them and there isn't total guarantee that they'll flourish elsewhere. We don't have a Bale, a Berbatov, a Modric etc - we have Tottenham. Whats most important to me is continuing to follow this path and when we bring players in they fit this team ethic

So if Real Madrid or Barcelona came along and offered Dele Alli £250k a week and offered Spurs £100m for him then fans still believe we won't lose him? If I'm honest, I think that is a very real possibility that we might have to face but I hope it is still at least a year away. By the way, I would never blame Levy for taking an offer like that.

The one pattern you'll see in all of the best players that left our club is that we never had a ready made replacement already in the squad. That's why we went backwards. Carrick left and we tried to fill his boots with Zokora. Berbatov left and we ended up with Frazer Campbell on loan and the average Pavluechenko. Modric left and we ended up with Dembele but he didn't show what he was capable of for another 2 seasons. Then we have Bale. We bought Lamela in the famous 7 who has had one good season in the four he's been at the club.

Our next 2 or 3 signings will be a huge statement of whether we are building something permanent and preparing for any eventuality.
