High Street Stores & Other Businesses At Risk

I've always thought it was crap to be fair

I've never been a fan of Asda but it's certainly as budget as you can get these days. They have built a brand new large store just down the road but I've stopped going there as the fresh food is so bad.

I thought ASDA was owned by Wallmart or Target or one of those American companies.

It was until recently when it was bought out by two billionaire brothers who made their money through petrol forecourts.

Asda has generally been the cheapest supermarket of the big ones by some way. They need to bring back the saving the penny adverts, and get rid of that terrible advert they have on the TV - it’s an awful advert with an awful actor.

Hahaha My Mrs hates that advert with a passion, can't say I take a great deal of notice of adverts or some of the programmes actually they are just on.
We've normally shopped at ASDA as its the closest supermarket to us and to be honest the cheapest. ALDI may be cheaper but we always end up back at ASDA for the branded goods anyway .

John Lewis warning it won't be re-opening all of its stores after lockdown

The group swung to a loss of £517m for the year to January, against profits of £146m the previous year.
The retailer said it "does not expect" all of its department stores to reopen once lockdown restrictions ease.
It has previously been reported the chain was considering closing up to eight more stores to try to cut costs.
Any further closures would be in addition to eight already announced in 2020.

I am sure they are looking at diversifying with stores not reopening and turning them in apartments and muses for the rental and sale market

Yeah, there was a documentary on the tv about that as well. Got to be done, as we've all discussed in this thread a few times.

thats another empty shop in Solihull town centre then , no doubt replaced by a charity shop, Vape bar or bookies

Chocolate maker Thorntons has said none of its stores will reopen after coronavirus lockdowns are lifted.
The decision to close its 61 shops will put more than 600 jobs at risk.

It’s a shame, think they have a shop near me but I have to say I only venture in once a year, just before Christmas.

All it will be is supermarkets, flats and hair dressers at some point unless something is done. There should be government led initiatives for small local independents to come in and take over these vacated shops before it’s too late. Nothing will ever happen though

Covid is definitely pushing a change in retail. There are a lot of empty retail units everywhere. However, there will be a boom for bars and restaurants when this is all over.

I was watching a programme about posh pawn brokers the other week, a bloke was trying to trade in his Bentley which he used for his wedding business. I was thinking with all the delayed weddings, he could be booked out for a couple of years every weekend if he can just hold on a bit longer.

Survival of the cash rich at the moment, could be a boom time for some companies in certain industries coming up.
