Hereford

Is it certain they will be in the North rather than South? (I haven't looked at what clubs are likely to be at that level myself).

Be interesting to see how they get on after three promotions in the three seasons since they were formed, and whether this level might put a brake on their rise. Mind you, their average attendance must be 2,500-plus so that might help.

Indeed.

They want to go into the NL South for geographical reasons, not to mention it is by far the less challenging of the two NL regional divsions.

Exactly how do they decide who goes north/south? Is there any reshuffle of those already in those divisions, or just a straight placing of those promoted and relegated?

Oxford City are somewhere on the borderline and have been in both the Conf South and North in recent seasons.

It all depends on the teams in any given year. If, for example, all four teams relegated from the National League were all located in the London area they would all go into the South division, which would mean two clubs from the South division would have to be shifted into the North.

As Croozey says, Oxford City, and the likes of Kings Lynn in previous seasons are often shifted between North and South leagues.

It used to happen in the old days of a regionalised Third Division - Port Vale and Coventry are two clubs who featured at various times in both the Third North and South.

Grimsby played in Div 3 in 1920-21 being the only team north of Northampton in that league ... but there was no Div 3(N) till the following season, then they moved into that. Div 3 became Div 3(S).

if you draw a line on the map from Oxford City's ground, due east, it runs about level with the northern part of the M25. That shows you what has happened to football clubs in England regarding wealth, that the North/South line used to be Kings Lynn.

If Hereford , who are a very good team, end up in the NLN rather than the south it will make that a brutal league to get out of. Almost makes me have some sympathy for Boston as they will struggle big time and they could end up further down the pyramid.

I did say almost!!!!
