Here we go!

Sorry you are wrong. You cannot redefine socialism to fit what your perception is of it.
You may be describing leftism, welfarism, radicalism, Labourism or any of the many similar -isms. But Socialism has a definition.
So I repeat, Socialists are against the EU. This is not a debateable statement,
The fact you have left leanings and worship at the shrine of Maastricht is inconsequential to this.

Socialism is not monolithic, there are different flavours, but not least because socialism of varying sorts is subscribed to around the world. Most of the lexits are much further left than the socialists.

I am a more post modern realist and therefore dont worship anything (brian clough and stuart pearce got close).

You may feel speeches given by the likes of Benn back in the 1980’s are not relevant today because it was 40 years ago but the message in those speeches are just as relevant today as they were then. Much of what he has campaigned against has come to be true. The bosses in the EU are putting the workers to the sword. The latest evidence of this is the law going through EU today, forcing the car owner to only purchase spares made by the car maker. Of course they can only be fitted by an employee of the car maker. Your small garage owner will be squeezed out by the likes of BMW, VW and Mercedes. You will pay top whack for privilege. Who is this law benefitting. Not you, (high price, poor after sales, no choice) the car owner, not the small garage at end of street, not small spare part manufacturers down the road. The big companies keeping protective trade rules in place to max profits. The EU is friend of no one but the rich.

Many on here last week were complaining about the U.K. aid being cut to 0.5 % GDP. Many quoted those nice people in Brussels making noise about this cut despite it still being higher than most of member countries. The point being don’t keep countries down by giving them aid. Aid is valuable in times of crisis and should be more like 1.5% but give them trade, which sustains jobs and they won’t need aid. By being protectionist and keeping the poor poor is not the way forward for a civilised society. That is why the EU and socialist values do not fit. Benn explained this and the protectionist trading consequences. Silver spoon or not, what he said has come to pass. We took 40 years being sucked in by those lying thieves and we will take as long to untangle ourselves from their tentacles.

Teach a man to fish and he can eat for life.

I dont much disagree with the analysis polly, its the solution were i radically differ. Going home just leaves more space for organised interests to take the piss.

The EU is a battleground between big interests and the rest of us and is the only show in town as far as making changes goes. Being on the inside gave us a chance to change things but an inability to re-educate rude europeans has seen us throw away that potential to become a small fish in a big and growing pond. Its a poor strategy.

Benns view of the world was riddled with contradictions but most of that world no longer exisits. Class consciousness is much reduced having been overtaken (if not completely eliminated) by identity politics. If you are under 50 most of our chat must look like gobble-di-gook

Wow just wow, from the beeb

Despite running the successful Vote Leave campaign in the referendum, Mr Cummings said that "no-one on Earth" could be certain it had been the right decision to quit the EU.

"I think anyone who says they're sure about questions like that has a screw loose, whether you're on the Remain side or on our side," he said.

Sounds like a fair comment to me.
Yes it is, but his political career is built entirely on pretending that he and everyone else is 100% certain about Brexit, so I'm just laughing at him coming out and saying it. His comment on the £350 million just being a made up tactic to wind up remainers is genius, and I have a feeling that saying that is ALSO a made up tactic to wind up remainers.

I wish Labour had a guy like him on their side tbh. His politics are a disgrace but he seems like a very smart guy who is able to make huge moves at will and really change things.

Not that smart, just prepared to gt down and dirty cause he doesnt see or understand the price that has been paid and needs paying. Made me laugh about who was in charge, take back control my arse, his contempt for democracy is palpable.

Remember when I said Cummings would start saying shit about Brexit if he didn't get traction to get rid of Boris and one of the usual lot said it wouldn't happen

Well I'm going to pat myself on the back again

Him and Give will now start to ramp this up

Have you read the article you posted?

He doesn't say "shit" about Brexit at all. He explicitly says it was a good thing.

If you honestly think you are the only person in the world who predicted that Cummings would turn on Johnson, good luck to you. The other 7bn people on this planet saw it coming and didn't need to crow about it

It's great popcorn material though. Kudos to Cummings for the drip feed: he pops up with new material just often enough to keep it fresh, interestint and for wounds to keep bleeding.

Oh hello

You mean this bit?

The controversial claim made by Vote Leave during the referendum campaign that the UK was giving the EU £350m a week was a trap set to antagonise the Remain camp

Mr Cummings claimed that Carrie Johnson - then Carrie Symonds - had been pleased to have Vote Leave veterans working in Downing Street until then.

But he added: "As soon as the election was won, her view was 'Why should it be Dominic and the Vote Leave team? Why shouldn't it be me that's pulling the strings?'"

Did you read this bit?

"Obviously I think Brexit was a good thing… I think that the way in which the world has worked out since 2016 vindicates the arguments that Vote Leave made in all sorts of ways.
"I think it's good that Brexit happened."

Don't let that stop you from patting yourself on the back though; it must be your most vigerous form of exercise

That wasn't what he said though. You have fallen for a misquote. Worse, you haven't even fully read the article you posted to support your view. This isn't the first time you have posted an article to vindicate a viewpoint without having read it, oblivious to the fact that it actually contradicts your view.

  • While he thinks Brexit was a good idea and the right thing for the UK, he says anyone who expresses certainty over this "has a screw loose"

Not even close to the Twitter misrepresentation you have quoted.

Not sure why you are posting the bits about Carrie Symonds, which has nothing to do with anything being discussed. I presume that must be the only bit you read

The big picture. If you want power make sure that you get elected. The tories excell at this, labour is fucking hopeless at it. Likewise if you believe it was right to leave the EU make sure that you have a good chance of winning a referendem, a catchy phrase ( with just enough truth in it to get by) might have got the leave campaign over the line.

DC was THE Brexit guy from the start, well, along with Farage of course. Millions voted for him at various stages lol To this day Im still unsure as to whether DC or BoJo actually believed in Brexit, or it was quite simply the way to take power.

Some politician on newsnight was saying its impossible to believe that DC would be involved with a Prime Minister who he actually thought was incompetant.

But jeeez, I was thinking that's exactly the type of guy you wanted fronting things. I still get confused as to whether many politicians are seriously that naive or whether they literally just live thier entire lives in denial.

Hushhhhh

Not sure what you think we have been talking about go back a little bit and I clearly state that this is the opening salvo on the shit that Cummings will be dropping about Brexit to oust Boris if he does not get rid of him with the stuff he is slowly releasing. This is based on what I said would happen a few weeks ago and one of the leave evangelists said he would not say anything of the sort. Im Waiting for that person to pipe up

You're on the vinegar stroke or preejaculate

Its nice to know you have got sand in your fanny over this though

Its Cummings home
