Parents’ efforts to help their children eat healthily are being undermined by sophisticated promotions for unhealthy foods on TV and online – these adverts are exploiting loopholes in advertising regulations.

We want the UK Government to introduce stronger regulations to stop companies from advertising unhealthy foods directly to children.

Petition at the link.

I was going to say I am fully against the idea of preventing someone advertising a product its not the corporations fault people are idiots... Then I thought to myself those prescription drugs commercials in America shouldnt be broadcasted and I thought yeah whatever....

Buck stops with the 'rents!

What I am all for is labelling, content, calories, benefits etc. that is 100% what I want to see... I am not a super healthy eater because I am blessed with a serious metabolism but I like to know where my stuff has been and whats in it etc. I know where McNuggets come from I have seen the process and I still eat those things... I am down to eat most stuff so long as I know whats going on... I have watched Food Inc. and a host of others so I am not ignorant!

Agree CDX on labelling and also as I've said many times, we need proper education to start from an early age.

THEN people make their choices.

They live and die by those choices but not in ignorance.

It can't be that difficult to label food and for people to be educated on what it all means.

I thought the traffic light system was a good one but as usual the Gov backed down albeit some companies like Sainsburys do it voluntarily.

Children’s TV viewing peaks between eight and nine pm, but laws created to protect children from junk food adverts don’t typically cover this period.

I read that and thought what a load of bollocks. If kids are watching TV at that time then where are the parents. Teenagers should know better

Hadn't clocked that, blimey. Kids these days have different lives to the one I led when I was a youngster...!

Depends on age really, there are the McD happy meal ads on the children's TV channels, then the ones that aim for the pre teen and teen markets where they try to make their product look cool.

"Teenagers should know better"

But sadly they don't, they have been born into a "fast food" generation, you are seen as odd if you don't eat this shit, why would you question what is a normal part of life for you? Knowledge needs to be taught or sought, most are too busy playing games, studying for school or college or working to pay their way to question the status quo.
