Heads up

Friends who live in France (who we're off to see next week) say their system is part state funded and part private ... and has been excellent for them ... including dental treatment.

For a while, I was in BUPA while working. It was initially a benefit, but then we were asked to pay ... so I dropped out. The fees were just daft.

So what you appear to be saying is there is possibly an alternative to the current system that may warrant further exploration.

The vast majority of the population do not want an insurance based private health care system. The project fear you refer to comes from the right where the likes of Reform and the right-wing element of the Tory Party are putting forward the idea that the NHS should be privatised.
Any form of insurance based health system will inherently favour those who can afford to pay for it at the expense of those who cannot. A two-tier health system in the hands of private investors that will put profit into the bank accounts of the rich rather than back into society for the good of everyone else.

The idea that Farage would be remotely interested in the idea of a cross party debate on any matter that doesn’t involve him lining his own pockets is delusional.

You are engaging in fear mongering. The NHS is not necessarily the panacea you think it is. Fuelling hysteria to thwart health improvements is a strange stance to take. To get the change and buy in required for something like this then I’d argue you need cross party support. If parties don’t wish to participate for political reasons then more fool them.

Never said it was but privatising the NHS puts money in the pockets of rich people to the detriment of the rest.
I’m all for cross party cooperation but there’s no way Farage will engage with the left even if they were willing to do so.

I couldn’t give a toss into whose pocket the money goes, as long as improvements are made. Despite Moonays kind sentiment with his emoji in another thread earlier I won’t be around to benefit from any change. However hopefully you will, along with your family and everyone else’s.
