Vital Champions League
here's a variation on ashton’s ‘where we were/where we are’ improvement comparison.

head-to-head
teams we played last year v corresponding game so far this year:

swindon [h] 2-2 : 4-1 +2pts
grimsby [a] 0-0 : 1-1 no change
notts [h] 2-2 : 3-1 +2
exeter [a] 0-1 : 3-0 +3
crawley [h] 0-0 : 0-1 -1
crewe [h] 1-4 : 1-0 +3
port vale [a] 0-1 : 6-2 +3
cheltenham [a] 0-1 : 2-0 +3
cambridge [h] 0-0 : 1-1 no change
carlisle [h] 4-1 : 2-2 -2
colchester [a] 0-1 : 0-1 no change
fgr [h] 2-1 : 2-1 no change
mansfield [h] 0-1 : 1-1 +1

last season to this stage: played 13 w 2 d 5 L 6 pts 11
this season: played 13 w 7 d 4 L 2 pts 25

overall improvement: +14pts

there are only two head-to-head games left to play that we lost last season:
notts [a] 1-4 the billy knott game
crawley [a] 1-3.

If the overall improvement remains at +14 points, when added to last season's total, we would have gained 89 points and second placel

In the early 1970s I used to do these comparisons on a sheet of paper. I would also keep tallies of comparative attendance figures. Used to get mad if I made a mistake and would start all over again. I never seemed to get past the 1st round of the cup; shocker!
