Has Harry Anderson got the Footballing Yips?

I actually thought he played pretty well. He got quite unlucky with rebounds and sometimes his final ball wasn’t the best, but who at the moment is putting in good balls? He was the only player on the pitch that looked to take people on and make something happen. We’re quite a slow team so I think his pace is actually a necessity in the team.

Lots of effort I thought and a willingness to try and take on his man. Let's not forget he is only 21 and still learning at this level

I think he is lacking a bit of confidence which was compounded today by the ball just not falling for him. On another day a couple of those rebounds might have put him in on goal...

I thought it was his best game for a long while. As has been mentioned, at least he was trying to take on their full back and looking a threat. But he’s got a way to go to reach his form of earlier in the season.

Crucial player for the second leg as without Rowe, we don’t have much in the way of players with pace who can beat a man.

The development/use of 433 seems to have relegated him to the subs bench with an associated drop in form and confidence. He appears more effective in a 442. Thought he had a better game today although his weakness is his final ball/shot which often means he promises a lot but often fails to deliver. I like him a lot especially his pace, beating a man and strength to hold off opposition.

Thought he seemed a little reluctant to get forward early on. Maybe under orders to give Wilson some cover.
Harry also looked yo be blowing out of his backside after 20 minutes. Pepped up as the game went on. Agree, him and Green are the only 2 with pace, and we need both playing well to be a real threat going forward.

What are the Yips? Come on some one explain

The yips can be attributal to Golf, cricket, basketball, baseball or any other sport, even snooker and darts.

The yips in golf is when a normally reliable putter, for some reason, is off their game and misses. Baseball, when a pitcher seemingly can't throw the ball effectively. Cricket, when they can't hit line or length when bowling or batting are a walking wicket.

It can come down to performance anxiety, fitness, illness, lack of confidence or just losing something in your head. Something causes you to think about something you do, when you normally just do it. As you're now consciously thinking about it, that allows you to try and overcorrect and make it worse.

Essentially the yips is a way of saying. Something's not right with them. Has their head gone a bit. Are they struggling with a niggle and mentally holding back. Or do they need to go back to square one and rebuild from there, without thinking about the processes.

Sorry, long winded explanation, but a fascinating psychological subject.

There is a physiological condition, tremours etc, but there are also the psychological yips too.

It's also a term used when there seems to be no obvious reason why a player is off their game.

Thanks for the explanation. I was not sure if it was some way connected to the second world war because all your posts are ,which is some what disturbing .One of the best players on the pitch today in my opinion regardless of any World conflict

Has been poor since January, but his best game today for a long time, how many times does he want to beat his full back and then mess it up !

Woodyard hasn’t been quite at it recently, in my footballing opinion. I think the season may be catching up with quite a number.
