Harry Kane Debate

Being discussed on Talk sport this morning. Dean Ashton thinks he lacks a little aggression and pace. The opinion of most is he is world class and could walk into any PL side and beyond.

Ashton suggests watching Andy Carroll on video for his aggressive play. This is something he could improve on if he needs to. The pace maybe not although sprinting training may help.

Berbs was often accused of having too little aggression, and often accused of being short of genuine first few yards 'pace' - he made up for both apparent shortcomings by;

1) (obviously) his two footed silky skills
2) his intelligence/vision/speed of thought
3) his movement

I've watched Harry ever since he's joined us; he isn't in the same class skills wise, but his vision, movement and workrate is now first class.

He'll never be World class - I think he's too one-footed and just not quite skilful enough, but now he's developed his upper body strength, he's tenacious and direct and relentless and that does and will make him a top class Premier league striker.

Carroll's uncontrolled aggression is part of the reason why his career has been strewn with self-inflicted injuries., I wouldn't tell any want a be striker to emulate what he does - he's too much brawn and too little brain.

Harry, believe it or not (his talking impediment fools many) is actually totally the opposite.

I think Harry has worked on his aggression in a controlled way but maybe more to come. His maturity is incredible. Carrying the armband at his age , the way he speaks and the respect he shows. He is not the type to rest on his laurels I am sure , he knows what he needs to work on.

I think he's in (or will be) in the bracket of Cavani, Benzema, Higuain. None are considered world class but there isn't any better out and out strikers than them. Just hope he gives us at least another 3-4 years, if he ain't won nothing with us in that time you can't begrudge him a move to win trophies.

He continues to improve and confound his critics. He certainly lacks pace and it is unlikely that sprint training will help. Please don't compare him with Berbatov who didn't give a toss about us. Harry does. He really is one of our own.

I think his true measure lies in the simple fact that NONE of the mega-clubs will ever come in for him, now they have seen him beyond his youth-development stage..

a very good finisher, but 1 who lacks pace and therefore can be neutered easily with a highline, provides very few assists and doesnt bring others into the game much with clever and timely space-creation thru' unselfish plays/runs...absolutely NEEDS support players closely around him to create the chances for him to score from..

like Berbatov, cannot play 'on-the-shoulder of defenders to exploit space behind, thus enabling opponents huge tactical advantage in allowing them to play highline and concentrate play in Spurs half eg. at Pud recently..

good at pens tho'...

Have to agree with sdc... he's doing the business for us so who cares what the experts say good or bad.

19 goals in 25 starts this season and scored in 14 different games. Say what you want about his pace, skill and aggression but any striker in the world would want those stats. Not bad for a 23 year old that hasn't reached his prime yet. Knowing Harry, he'll constantly be working on every part of his game.

Also, with our track record of buying strikers over the years, we need to keep Harry happy. Berbatov was our last great striker. In between we've had guys like Bent, Keane, Defoe, Pav, Crouch, Adebayor, Soldado etc. Say no more !!!

Harry is the best English Striker to emerge for yonks..... :7:

not even close... I rate both Sturridge, Welbeck and now Rashford already better, when fully-fit..

you can harp on about his scoring-ratios all you want, but overall you'd win more games with any of those 3 in Kane's place, due to offering more tactical variance in both attack, and more importantly defence and counter-attacking efficiency.

Rubbish, 2 injury proners in your list and a wet behind the ears youngster in the early days of his career...and remember, arguably they have better chance providers in their teams...Kane has to work a lot harder as e.g shitsoko and Son do not provide many chances for Kane ..

Trouble is though they wouldn't replace Kane cos they'd be injured. He would play in their place either down to form or fitness.

lol - which Robbie Keane. The young lad we bought from Leeds or the old guy we stupidly bought back from Liverpool?

Must admit, the England debate is a good one. For me, Wellbeck has never played centrally for England but been fantastic supporting central strikers. Sturridge has also played well at times but never really put in a shift for his country. Vardy is not the answer, either short term and definitely not long term. Rooney should start to move to the bench now and Rashford doesn't play for his club enough or even up front.

I've seen Kane play for England a few times and he's definitely not tore it up yet like he's done for Spurs. Time will tell whether he can make the shirt his own and how Southgate accommodates other players like Alli into the team.
