By the time Harris was sacked early in October 2023 after the Crewe away game, we had won 7 but lost 4 of our opening league games.
We had drawn just one game v Mansfield, beaten Southampton, but then lost to Luton in the League Cup.
I was against his sacking at the time.22 points from 36 ain't so bad. We currently have 26 from 54.
As far as I can recall Asaba missed almost the entirety of our promotion season with a groin injury. I don't mean to nitpick and this is just from memory so someone can correct me if I'm wrong but it was quite a defining feature of that season that we were so worried about his absence and ended up scoring so many even without him.Yes, and everyone hankers after the days of Asaba and Taylor but, putting aside their abilities, as far as I remember they hardly missed any games as well as developing their understanding at both Brentford and the Gills.
He took us down once, and was looking likely to happen again, until the Galisons came along…
The pre-January form would have seen us relegated with a record low points and goals tallyHe took us down once, and was looking likely to happen again, until the Galisons came along…

Could see why many didn’t like his defensive minded football, but with the players we had it was the best way to get results.
Not very often say this Buddha but on this point I think that you are spot on!Yes, I was too. I reckon he'd have got us at least into the players, possibly better.
This division is shit. It's not about stylish or entertaining football. It's about getting results any way you can, often in a manner that really ain't pretty. We've got to scrap to get out of this shit. Being defensive, keeping clean sheets and winning lots of games 1-0 is a pretty good formula for gaining promotion.
I love watching free-flowing attacking football - especially when both teams adopt that style - with lots of goals being scored. And that's how I love my Gills to be - the way they were when I fell in love with them (Sir Keith era, obvs). But that can't happen in this division (not for a sustained period and/or with any consistency). That has to come later, when we're a top-half third division team. For now, all that matters is getting promoted.

I watched Salford on Saturday and I think they have all the tools to be in the promotion box come May. They are physical, dirty and narky but in possession they can play decent attacking football.
Wins are what matter now - let's save the pretty football for League 1.
Sorry Buddha, but Nibbles is always right - he told me.You should listen to me more, DB, I'm often right. (though not always). Nibbles will confirm this (unless he is feeling mischievous, in which case he won't).
Sorry Buddha, but Nibbles is always right - he told me.
I am often (but not always) right.
Once he has confirmed this there can be no further debate.
Incorrect. This subject is not up for debate. If he fails to confirm it then it'll open the way for a debate about whether or not he actually is always right...
Took us down? In League One?He took us down once, and was looking likely to happen again, until the Galisons came along…
Fair dos, I think you are right, but that was also the season Super Bob left at Christmas so I was referring to the previous season and a half.As far as I can recall Asaba missed almost the entirety of our promotion season with a groin injury. Confirmed.
Incorrect. No subject should be precluded from ongoing debate. It’s a slippery slope to removal of our freedom of speech. Very disappointed in you, Buddha.

To be fair to Lark, I distinctly remember we had 19 points from 11 games (possible 33) so we must only have had 6 league wins when NH departed, not 7.22 points from 36 ain't so bad. We currently have 26 from 54.
Cody and Bayo had a pretty good understanding/partnership for us long since then.Fair dos, I think you are right, but that was also the season Super Bob left at Christmas so I was referring to the previous season and a half.
I was just using them as an example as they developed such a good understanding and were a nightmare for defenders when fit and firing for a spell.
Yes you’re right it was only six league wins, I think I counted the win over Leyton Orient by mistake which was in the Trophy competition. To be fair to Lark, I distinctly remember we had 19 points from 11 games (possible 33) so we must only have had 6 league wins when NH departed, not 7.
MB reached that 19 point figure in just 8 games which was outstanding.
The problem is that he has only achieved 7 from the following 10 league games.
That form stretched over a whole season would also have almost certainly seen us relegated with a record low points tally. And that after such a higher financial outlay.
