Happy days. Growing up being a villa fan was fantastic. Promotion. League cup (thanks Ray) Promotion (what a day at home to Sunderland). League Cup. League. European champions. 2 league cups. And then David James dropped that ball. I thought we were unbeatable in finals until then. Happy birthday Ray! My first great villa memory. Still have the newspaper cutouts.
I remember as a kid getting one of those sticker books and Ray Graydon was described as an "orthodox winger". I asked my mate what the hell orthodox meant. He said, it means "really good". To this day whenever I hear the word orthodox I think of Ray Graydon.
Ray Graydon was an amazing player, he was absolutely pivotal in the rise of Aston Villa, he was a great provider. Wonderful player. I will never ever forget him.
Boy hood Hero, used to give away his sock tie's after the game.
Sounds strange to youngsters today but the sock ties back in the day had the players number on them, like a little pennant.
Loved Ray Graydon but orthodox was he shite he was anything but many a time Iv'e seen him run with the ball from right wing to left wing and back again he did some odd things at times but what a player. Then on the other wing we had Frank Carrodus who would beat five players round the keeper then trip over the ball. Fuck me whatever happened to those days when football was so much fun. Happy birthday Ray and thanks for those very special memories.
