It's 48 years since my birthday fell on a game day (I think) 2nd September 1978, we lost at home 2-3 v Newport County , I think it was only our second home game game in the football league, a crowd of 5319 watched us that day. It was my 21st birthday.

I think there will be a a few more on Wednesday so I am going for 7319.

We did not win until our 6th game that season, the doom mongers of the day wrote us off saying we should have stayed in the Northern Premier League, the signings we made were crap, the board were not investing enough money in the club.
That team like the one now was a rebuild full of has-beens and unknown players that needed to learn how to play together and gel, well they did gel and planted our roots in the big leagues, we ended up missing out in the promotion by a couple of points.

Difference we had a Chairman 100% committed. Plus the transition from part time to full time. Took time. One or two. Sadly. Football league came to late. Plus we had a great. Manager. Great time to be a latics fan. At 21
