Grimsby Town (a): What 3 Things Do We Need To Do To Beat Them?

1. Don't be complacent, don't treat them as cannon fodder and expect an easy win. Make no mistake this is the hardest of the starting games.

2. Unless it is the same 3 as Port Vale don't go with a back 3, probably best to use a 4 formation at the back and protect the channels.

3. Get at them with the pacey players from the start, go at them full throttle and when the likes of Andrade tire bring on Luque to replace him and let him have a chance, he will be eager to please and given it is a local derby well up for it.

1. As Gratzimp said don't get too complacent Grimsby are no mugs and will be fired up for a derby game at home aiming to prove a point.

2. Start quickly and press them back using pace and width as we have done in the last two matches and not get sucked in like we did at Northampton.

3. Score more goals than them :grinning:

1. Press. Grimsby's defending against Forest Green ranged from shambolic to panic-stricken. Remember Akinde's goal at Port Vale? Grimsby's defenders are cannon-fodder for more of the same.

2. Run at them. A common theme from The Fishy indicates they are not the fastest team in the world and lack pace in midfield in particular. The strength and speed of Andrade, Green, Akinde and Anderson looks too much for them on paper alone, whilst the skill of McCartan and Pett in the advanced midfield area should run rings around the likes of cumbersome John Welsh.

3. Shackell must play. Not just at Grimsby, but as a permanent fixture in the centre of defence alongside Wharton. They gave Port Vale absolutely nothing on Tuesday and restricted Vale to speculative long-range shots only. On the other hand, Grimsby failed to have a single shot on target against Rochdale on Tuesday and only had three against FGR. At home, that is very, very poor.
