Grimsby Pre Match Press Conference with Danny Cowley

Danny Cowley addressed the press ahead of the Derby weekend.

Early Season - Put in two good performances and had three excellent results. DC was pleased that Imps are showing more tactical flexibility than in the past but working hard to ensure 'We do not get ahead of ourselves'. He was pleased that the whole squad are putting their hands up to play and hopes that will still be the case after a run of quick fire fixtures in the next few weeks. The timing of Lincoln's goals has been helpful in the early matches. It has provided control of the games and allowed City to pick off the opposition from that platform. DC felt the team had started to see games out well, certainly more effectively.

Favourites Tag - DC was unfazed that Imps are no longer seen as underdogs. He took the view that success brought further expectation but having created expectation he wasn't going to fear it; it was something to be embraced. The important thing would be to relentlessly and consistently ensure the team played at it's best.

Grimsby Match - This is probably the biggest Derby of the lower leagues. The club is connected to the supporters and they know how much it means. The support is really appreciated and it is 'our' opportunity to give something back and show how 'we feel about our support'. Imps have experienced players who are used to big games, hostile crowds and they will help the younger players along. It is important to start well but DC is looking for detached clear heads and good decision making; City will need to be intelligent tactically and maintain disciplined behaviour. DC felt Grimsby had been a big club in the past and had success in higher divisions. Their fans were vociferous but like all fans would be happy if things were going well and frustrated if not. He expected Grimsby to come out on the front foot and had certainly much improved under Jolley who was working hard to impose his own style on their play. DC noted Grimsby had over played from the back against FGR which had cost them but had quickly fixed that for the game against Macclesfield.

Miscellaneous - Injury wise there were only a few niggles. In the Carabao Cup DC would like a tough home draw to enable all the fans to see a game that would really test the team whilst enabling the players to learn from it.
