Bus, hellicopter, boat or on foot? Value for money or just a dirty great hole in the ground?

I've heard helicopter is amazing and I can imagine it being the best view but regardless of the option I am sure you'll enjoy. I haven;t done it myself but the flight from Vegas to NYC we flew over it but I couldnt get much of an appreciation at 30k feet.

I'm hoping to go and check it out next year. I'd guess that helicopter is the best way to see it but probably the most expensive too.

Has anyone been there?

Is it worth the 6 hour drive?

I can confirm, a helicopter tour is well worth it. We flew from McCarran, which took us over the Hoover Dam, then along the Canyon before landing on the edge. It was a friends wedding, and was spectacular.

They filmed the whole thing, and provided a DVD, which I still watch occasionally today.

Amazing.

6 hour drive? Where would you be driving from? Google maps has it at just over 2 houors from Vegas.

I've done it twice and would really reccomend the 2nd one I did.

First one was Helicopter from Vegas to the canyon, land, picnic, helicopter back. It was good. Helicopter was fab but picnic was a bit lame.. can of coke and a pack of crisps I think.

2nd one was virtually the same but included a boat trip from the foot of the hoover damn up the colarado river. Really enjoyed this one... still got to do the helicopter, but the added boat trip just made it awesome.

The issue for me is the price, I have to pay for 5 people so can't afford the packages you are refering to Deano. I'm looking at driving to the Canyon heliport and taking a 30 minute trip from there, sadly no landing.

This was the 2nd one I did. A bit expensive but highly recommended, especially if you get a nice sunny day for the boat ride.

Ahh ok, ignore my last post then, you'd be looking at $2,500 for the 5 of you :10: :10:

Or just leave them in the hotel and go by yourself! :35:

We got a helicopter from Vegas over the Hoover dam to a ranch at the bottom of the canyon. We then went on a sunset horse ride then returned for an evening meal songs round the fire and a night stay in a tee pee. It was fantastic. The only downside for us was having to stay in Las Vegas, which is not my cup of tea.

I presume that this was noy the budget option.

I don't think it was that bad they, it was a special holiday, my wife's 40th, so cost wasn't too much of a consideration. I think we booked it in Vegas and with the exchange rate it wasn't too bad.

Wish I'd not looked at that!

I assume that's from LA. Joe Rogan mentioned the 6 hour drive in his bit comparing the grand canyon and space.

Sorry BB led you astray, I think it's just a reference to a lot of American families who drive big distances to get there.

Camping at Yellowstone or Yosemite is would be a worth while six hour drive from Vegas tho ??

I'm planning to get married in Vegas in 2018 for my tenth wedding anniversary. If we have enough time, we'll hit up the grand canyon, hoover dam, Yosemite, San Fran and possibly a bit of northern California.

I'm getting married in Vegas in 18 days! If you need any advice BB then hit me up, I'm now an expert.

I thought women were supposed to organise weddings..... now I know why Natalie suggested Vegas coz she knew I'd do it all!

Any reason why Vegas BB, are you a gambler? Personally I can highly recommend Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Tahoe, Monument Valley, LA, and Palm Springs, but Vegas is completely soulless. I have been twice and really haven't got any love for the place.
