Gorbachev

I have no idea of the identity of the Russian oligarchs, either those targetted by the UK, or by the EU.

However, Starmer seemed to ask some perfectly reasonable questions re why some don't seem to be in the government's sights. Johnson didn't answer. He (rather peculiarly) said that we can target whoever we want ... we can, but we're not.

The PM is only too eager to trumpet what he's done, when we were first, when we've gone furthest ... so why didn't he answer such reasonable questions? ... unless he's summat to hide, or he's covering summat up?

Was listening to Radio 2 this afternoon & Laura Kunsberg(?) was saying they can target these oligarchs but given the amount of money they have and the high priced questionable lawyers they use the government has to get it absolutely correct before going for sanctioning them....prob a cop out imo.

It's been put out this morning that they're giving the biggest bank that they sanctioned 30 days before anything comes into place. Doesn't that simply give them/investors time to sort out their shit?

If they publish the criteria for the sanctions - or probably, simply state what they are in parliament - then I'd have thought they were on solid ground.

The EU seems to have implemented more wide ranging sanctions with immediate effect. Surely, we're not dragging our feet cos we're in hock to 'em! (Caveat - speculation alert ... albeit with good reason).
