Google Glasses

Vital Football Legend
Me, I'm a total techno laggard. I'm pretty suspicious of new technology. I never saw the point of the pads and I still kinda don't. So the next big thing in technology is these Google Glasses. It seems to me that they are going to fall on their arse like 3d tv. Who wants to walk around wearing a headset all day? But there you go. I still can't figure out why you'd want a pad. So rather than being my usual technophobe self and decrying Google Glasses to the world I thought I'd turn to my mates on VV for the inside track.

Are Google Glasses the new smartphones or the new 3d tv? Hit or miss, people, hit or miss?

Just to give you a wonderful example of how techno-suspicious I am, the first iPhone was released in 2007. I bought my first smart phone in 2013.

Anyway, this thread isn't about me. Focus, people, focus.

I wont be getting a pair for the exact reasons you mentioned. Im ugly enough without having to wear these.... thats also the reason why I dont own a 3D tv too.

I wear glasses. I have too. I don't like contacts. I spend alot of money on my glasses so they are the all singing all dancing designer type. I have no intention of taking my glasses off to put Google glasses on.

I don't want something like that on my eyes even if I didn't wear glasses. So a miss for me. I can't see them taking off either.

I do own a tablet which I keep in my bag. Easier to use on the move, for meetings etc. So many places have free Wi-Fi now also so they have a place. Mobiles are too small, even the smart phones, which I have. A laptop is too big to be carrying all over hence why I have a tablet

Here is the link to tell and show you what they do, ffs these are weird and off star trek lol

I voted Hit. In their current form, they do seem a bit of an obstacle, but this is just the start of the wearable tech. Imagine them built into your glasses. They act like a HUD display wherever you are. Sat Nav on it s just so brilliant.

I'm the opposite, BB. I am an early adopter, and usually end up paying through the nose for the early prototypes that are crap!!! I had my first smartphone in 2001, and I loved it, mainly because it was complicated. It took Brains to actually use it, unlike the phones we have today.

You're not a minority, Clive. Sorry mate, but it's not discrimination if you're all a bit dim. :80: :80: :80: :80:

They are ok, a little heavy and the sound is crap, But with v0.7 they reckon they have the sound better.

Samsung are making some as well, before i stump up the proposed $1500 for Google glass i want to try them.

3d tv seems a strange comparison for something you expect to fail. It's quite popular here, if only for watching 3d BluRays rather than 3d transmissions or even uoscaling 2d transmissiins (which doesn't work very well.

But to the point of the thread, in their current form it's a miss imo but if built in to eyewear that people use anyway or even contact lenses it could be interesting. That said, I don't think it will be used in the way it's currently being promoted as some sort of augmented reality, more in a usefull app way, as satnav or step counter info when using Runkeeper, that kind of thing. The augmented reality idea seems a bit intrusive to me and I don't think people will like it.

Miss for me, my teeth and my eyes are the only things that work properly and I think these could well affect your eyesight, got to be a strain surely!?

And same as BB, I can't see the use/point or why I'd need them.

I'd quite like a 3d tv when they suss out the technology without having to put the glasses on, but can't see me having one before that. Again, I find they can strain the eyes a bit!

I think the potential is mind boggling, but as has already been said the first few attempts will probably flop.

10 or 20 years time I think they could be the norm.

Like most successful technology, the success will probably be driven by pornography.

I'm sure I read that VHS won the Betamax war, because there was more porn available on VHS, and we all know the success of the internet is powered by porn, and probably smartphones too.

When google glasses allow you to see Rachel Riley while making love to your woman, then they will sell in bucket loads! lol

I'm interested if and only if they enable me to see through women's clothes.
