Golf betting - n/g

Thing is, every now and then, Liverpool lose to Crystal Palace, Ali gets Ko’d by Buster Douglas, or Gills win away.

Then your “cert” loses and you are behind again. If there was a dead set way to beat the bookies we’d all be millionaires.
Yet the way I see it it’s all about factoring in the occasional losses.

Liverpool do lose 1 time out of 10 to palace. But using WX figures, if he has bet £100 with a £30 return the 9 times before that then providing the 10th time is still the same stake then what he loses is just collateral damage.
almost like a taxi driver needing new brakes and tyres, or a gardener needing new tools if you like.
I think the greed factor is probably most amateur gamblers undoing. And I can understand why.

I can hear the punter chatting to his mates now, “ Gillingham are historically crap away from home. They’re bound to lose against top of the table. I’m going big on it this week”. And then we all know what happens, lol!

I say this as someone who doesn’t gamble at all, and with limited knowledge of the bookmaking trade btw.

My favourite bet at the moment is to finish in top 6. Run a 4 team accumulator and the odds mount up.

Picking winners is hard but things like Ipswich top 6 are more likely

The more teams you put in an accie the lest chance of winning.

When my mate Darren and i used to bet on a Sat at the bookies we only did triples.

Yes. As i saw he was winning by 2 or 3 shots he looked ok to win.

I did mistakenly think he only had 3 holes left but the 15 i read meant something else.
I considered betting on him when there was only 3 holes left, but when I logged in and checked the odds he was 1/66 to win so I didn’t bother!

Was annoyed with the Euros, had England to win it at enhanced odds, blooming penalties again! The only bet I won was Ronaldo for the Golden Boot, did back Lukaku as well earlier in the tournament though.

Hmm betting, I'm not really into it. I essentially gamble on outcomes to make a living so I don't have any desire to gamble that money again.

The best bet I've ever made was "investing" (spoiler alert, its not an investment) £2500 in crypto currency which I held for 16 months and by some miracle it turned into £35k. Confident I've used all of my luck up for quite some time.

I bet at 5.35pm - was he far from finishing then?

I think the 15 i saw was 15 under par.

Now that is a nice return SE1. Congratulations. You need some big Kahoonas to shell out £2500 in the first place though, so respect for that mate.

What a great spot. Do you have to pay tax on it?

Did you sell ? Crypto far too volatile for me

Thanks mate. One of the people I work with is really into it and she badgered me into submission, my theory was that if you're going to get involved you might as well do it properly.

Complete unadulterated luck.

My accountant will submit it as part of my tax return. Personally I don't agree with it as you don't pay tax on winnings from the bookies but HMRC are proposing they treat it the same way as buying shares (outside of an ISA), capital gains. Not worth bending the rules for that money given what I do for a living.

Yeah, sold end of March/ beginning of April. IMO it's not a profit until you exit your position and turn whatever it is (crypto, a watch, an investment property) into "cash".

I agree with the volatility, it's not for me long term and I don't like the fact there isn't an underlying asset. It's a load of hocus focus.

I do know of a guy who is around 21/22 years old who binned off his job with Tradition / ICAP because he made "f off" money from crypto. Ballsy. Hopefully he's used it to buy a few flats to rent out, though I know from experience it's hard to use it as a deposit for that sort of thing.

100% agree with that.

The thing is if Liverpool are at home to Palace the bookies will have it priced up at about 1/10, due to the fact that they will win 9 times out of ten.
So even if you backed them for £100 every time and you won nine times out of ten you end up losing.
The bookies bet over round in all events so the odds are in their favour, a bit like the roulette wheel at a casino.
WX, you got away with and you won and I am genuinely pleased for you but at one stage after you backed him he was only one shot up.
All it took was one hook, slice, one bunker or heavy rough and you would have lost.
Backing on the comments if a commentator is not usually the way to riches.
Remember England V Romania when Keegan said “there’s only one team going to win this now, and that’s England”?

Yes, i can see the futility of it now.
