Go Keir Starmer

I have never backed or voted for
Keir Starmer and object to some of his decisions or leanings.

However, his recent immigration speech and today's milestones announcement press conference was f excellent. The speech and rhetoric were excellently written, politically coherent and firmly aimed at pushing back on all of the media and populist pressure.

His problem is that he is no orator but once just answering questions he was very fluent and persuasive.

Notice the rabid aggression from ALL of the media.
Even though he was agreeing to the points of the populist channels they are all finding fault with their own stated aims.

Need to watch all of it to make sence of it, snippets don't give the whole picture.

I gather most of the media were obsessed with the "boats" issue which, tbh, is small fry compared to everything else that is going on.

The pile on to Labour has been hysterical. Had Esther McVey blaming Labour for the Prisons crisis on Politics Live yesterday. Went unchallenged of course. F###ing cheeck of them.

Boats just a small bit. Evidently labour not clear on numbers and also is immigration a priority. Concentrated a bit on labour now saying 95% renewables by 2030 after saying100% 3 years ago. All media questions were aggressive.

There were no 'left' policies and he made it clear that populism cannot work as it just talk, should not talk down to people who are just worried about certain things like immigration and safety on the streets and lack of housing and jobs. Thats my memory anyway.

Well worth watching the full thing.

Yes it was a fantastic speech (obviously actions speak louder but the speech sets the next four years up for that side of things). I liked the few minutes I heard at lunchtime and prompted by Jerry have just watched the whole thing.

As someone who hasn’t been overly keen on Mr Vanilla as leader of the opposition I do think he’s doing very well as PM.

How refreshing to hear a speech focussed on unity over division, addressing real problems and setting ambitious but realistic goals (KPIs) on which to judge the government. Contrast that to the gutter politics of the last (particularly) nine years. Contrast that to Badenoch’s childish and discriminatory biscuit puns (yes, there is a time and place) just last week.

I do hope the public can see through the divisive media hatefest in which they are immersed on a daily basis.

Without knowing how much notice to give to such things I am slightly worried by reported polling showing both Reform and Conservatives above Labour - it is hard to believe and I know various pollsters have their own agendas but we’re only five months in. Be interesting to see what impact if any the King’s Speech has on popularity / voting intention.

I`m not a big fan of Starmer, but his strategic consolidation plans deserved "main story" status on last evenings news. Certainly a higher placing on the main BBC News than it received.

That it warranted airing below news from America (yet again) about a man being murdered in New York City, reflects how "Red Top" and off-topic the BBC has become. They even had their BBC Verify (whatever that self indulgent twaddle is) person talk us through various NYC street maps and routes in order, apparently, to justify showing some still pics and interviews with NYC police officers - WTF ! Of interest ? Maybe. But top news story - do me a favour.

If it`s not day upon day of self indulgent rubbish and scandal about its own Corporation it`s "story" after "story" about what`s going on in the USA.

There is plenty of UK domestic news to report, plenty of murders and plenty of politics. Review your priorities and get a grip, BBC. I`m beginning to resent paying a licence fee.

We have murders, robberies sexual assaults and stabbings here in the uk every day.
Evidently our victims are irrelevant unless you are a minor celebrity.

Very much the epitome of preaching to the converted (disingenuously dressed up as if the judgements on his speech are somehow considered and independent assessments). The rest of us thankfully live in the real world!

At least he has openly acknowledged and agreed to work on the main issues.

Agree. Even Politics Live is becoming unwatchable. Missus and I felt compelled to switch off on Wednesday when Tory ex "Minister for Common Sense" (ludicrous non job) blamed Labour for the Early Release Prison scheme. Her claim went unchallenged by the presenter, of course.

At this rate Labour will be blamed for the PPE scandal.
