I'm guessing he ran himself into the ground 3 days ago and has failed a fitness test today?
 
Oshilaja sent off, hopefully that's the last we see of him in a Gills shirt, he's been a fucking liability this season.

I admit I finally became a plastic and gave this game a miss (partly 'cos rest of family couldn't go). Glad I did. Stats look bad, especially as even when we have 80% possession we do fuck all with it -as per Millwall, until we went 2-0 and down to ten men. Fuck me that was frustrating and led to my melting off today's game.

How bad were we?

It looks as if there are 4 teams worse than us so we should stay up. Assuming we stay up, it's season over as far as I'm concerned. What a waste of talent.

I knew we'd lost when they brought Donnelly on.

I've never been so frustrated with a Gills side.

I gather from another thread that the "inspirational" JED is talking us down again, probably because we were facing the mighty Oxford who we obviously couldn't expect to compete with FFS.

Commiserations to those who went. I'll be stupid enough to go to the next one.

Of the approx 15 games I've seen this season, we've only won one deservedly IMO, v MK plastics.

I genuinely feel sorry for Scally. I admit I thought JED was a good appointment. It seems he does not believe a "little" team like ours should expect to challenge for the playoffs in League One. Perhaps the managers of Rochdale, Southend, Wimbledon, Fleetwood etc should give up!!!

So lets look for the positives in that game. Well there aren't any so lets get on with the realistic view.

Oxford should have won by 5 or 6 they had some many chances but were incredibly shite up front.

We however didn't force their keeper to make a notable save that I recall (Jacksons back pass cum shot was so routine it doesn't count).

The JET / Nouble frontline didn't work. Nouble at least worked hard, JET fell over a lot.

Cody / Rory partnership looked better because they ran around and chased lost causes. Donnellys overhead (perhaps he should have headed it) was close but we didn't deserve anything. I would rather see Donnell y than JET play though.

Oshilaja should be returned to cardiff he has gone backwards since signing.

The midfield were ineffective and we can't seem to pass to each other.

To be honest I wish the season would end now, clear the whole lot out (starting with the manager) and have a fresh team/manager for next season.

The only question now is do we have enough points to stay up.

I feel for Scally. I wouldn't sack JED but I would start the search for the next seasons manager now. Let's not pay JED any compensation, let his contract expire and get ready to go again next season.

I have a season ticket and at the moment I am wondering about whether I really want to go to the next game.

It really is that dire.

Please someone find a positive.

 
Do we have to pay JED compensation? If we sack him, surely we just negotiate payment of all or part of what we'd have to pay him to the end of the season anyway? We might even save a few weeks wages binning him now and giver any new man the opportunity to bring some of his own faces in.

This season is a write-off and the number of rubbish sides below us should in theory prevent us being relegated, so we may as well look to next season.
 
The interesting thing about this game is that Oxford were only 1pt ahead of us at the kick off. 90 minutes later the difference in class, effort, quality and points were only too obvious to anyone who attended.
Not surprised to hear the first coordinated chants for JEDs sacking after the whistle.

Compensation would only be what we would have paid him but we have to pay a replacement management team as well. We also need to clear out the back room staff so you are talking about 3-4 people to pay off and 3-4 new people to pay.

I am guessing that 3-4 people is a fair sum of money. If we can stay up then I think its a good business call to make the change in the summer.

 
Was the Chairman at the game ?

Perhaps he should re-introduce the anonymous feedback forms he gave to the players to help him decide whether to hire JED..........
 
There really were not any positives this afternoon at all. We owe it to the exiles and non attendees to report just how bad this was. There was not one actually good performance by anyone in a Gllingham shirt. Once again an opposition team walked away with the points without having to do anything special at all. They were able to squander a few really good opportunities without fear.

I'm not surev what went on with Cargill but he seemed to change position during the match and steadily got worse. The injury in the first half might have affected him but he was awful. Wright ineffective, off the pace and his only action of note was entering the ref's notebook. Oshilaja was comically hopeless and destined for a red as soon as he got the first yellow. The other two in defence were adequate at best. In midfield Hessenthaler tried without much effect, ditto Byrne. Wagstaffe looked to do the right things but couldn't make sense of the nonsense around him.

Nouble did a great impression of a giant convinced that he is a willow the wisp dwarf and the other one can fuck off right now. I don't want to watch another match with that player, who appears in a competitive team game without an ounce of competitive spirit, or any idea beyond his own delusion. I'm struggling to convince myself I want to leave the house if JET is in our team again, ever. Usually in an overall, hapless performance I woiuldn't single anyone out but this was exceptional. How can the manager expect anything from his other players while this imposter stands around waving his arms at team mates and officials.
 
The thing that really sticks in my throat is that we played a pretty poor Oxford side who were all about playing a physical game and breaking up the play and we made them look like world beaters.

We started by playing a 3 5 2 formation with Oshilaja and Ehmer either side of Cargill and Wagstaff and Jackson providing the width. For some reason (perhaps because JET often made it a 3 6 1 formation!!) we switched to 4 5 1 with Cargill at left back and Jackson as a traditional right back. JET then moved to right side with Wagstaff on the left.

To be frank, it made not one iota of difference.

Nelson did OK. Made one top drawer save but other than picking the ball out of the net had little to do.
Jackson got Man of the Match. No idea why but perhaps it was because he didn't do anything wrong,
Ehmer was probably our best player but by his own standards wasn't as good as he's been before.
Cargill did OK in the middle but is not a left back.
Oshilaja was clearly not match fit but his decision making is so poor at the moment. Pask would have been a better option today. Others have said he should be sent back to Cardiff and on today's performance I would agree
Wagstaff is wasted as a wing back on the left hand side and wasn't much more effective as a left winger. Was subbed mid-way through the second half having got booked "taking one for the team" when one of their players was heading towards goa

Our central midfield 3 of Wright, Byrne and Hess are all basically the same person. None of them really tackle, none of them really attack, they don't really get forward to support the strikers and don't really track back to help the defence. One of these players in the team wouldn't enhance it. To have all 3 means that we are over run which is what happened today.

Nouble is not a striker. Put himself about in the first half but faded in the second half and was substituted.

JET - total waste of space today. If some people think he is the answer to our prayers then God help us as we're heading for league 2. I would send him back to QPR. He is a luxury we just can't afford.

Cody ran around a lot but created nothing. Was given no service
Rory also ran around a lot and had one spectacular attempt that just went over from what was our only real attempt on goal.

The BBC says we had 2 attempts on target. I have no recollection of their keeper making any saves at all!!

For the avoidance of doubt we were a total and utter shambles today. I could not even begin to fathom what our game plan was today for either formation. I can only conclude that JED picks a formation, puts players into the relevant positions and then just assumes that they will be successful. Clearly they won't.

I understand the view that we should wait until the summer before making a managerial change but based on this performance that could mean we are looking for a League 2 manager. The savings in not dispensing with JED and his team now could be a false economy compared to revenue reduction for being in League 2 again. Only Scally will have an idea about this but I'd like to think that his financial people will be weighing up the financial considerations.

It's been said elsewhere that there are 4 worse sides than us in this league. I would have thought Oxford were a bottom 6 side based on today's game and they've now done the double over us so whereabouts might we finish......

A bad bad day with no positives I'm afraid.
 
My man of the match .. Cody MacDonald .. and he only played 30 minutes.
Yet again we looked 2nd best for fitness, passing, organisation, commitment.
At half time I had to check with my son, just to make sure we really were the home team.
With the cost of my season ticket, going home frozen to the core, yet another dismal performance, is it worth it.
