Gills and transfer deadline day tomorrow

Apart from a flurry of reports last week about interest in Holy and longer ago a SL comment about wanting Ogilvie back on loan (saints preserve us) I have not encountered any rumours, hints, gossip about Gills arrivals/departues.

Any posters heard anything at all, gossip or rumours?

No worries. As someone said before, I’m expecting nothing until the loan window gets into full gear willing to get rid of players unable to be sold during the transfer window, or otherwise ones now surplus to requirements given transfer deadline acquisitions.

We really could do with a striker who is a proven goalscorer, a midfielder who can hold the ball and find the right pass and a no nonsense defender with pace.

On sorry. Just woken up...each of the last few years keeps coming back in my dreams. I momentarily forgot this is 2018 and we actually got a decent squad together in plenty of time this year.

I think we need cover at left back. Garmston simply won't last the season. I don't like Lacey there, and he struggles with injury aswell. Not sure Simpson will be quite ready just yet.

Could also do with a wide player with some pace.

Maybe a centre half. Not sure who'd come in if Ehmer or Zak weren't available. As I mentioned, Lacey seems a bit of a sick note. Maybe Bingham as he's played there before, but far from ideal.

Other than that I'm reasonably happy

Reilly proved a solid left back but a extra left footed player would be good.At centre back we have some excellent young players .I am not qualified to say it they are ready yet .But maybe a six months loan would cover and still give lads a chance to progress this season.

I can't see us doing anything in the transfer window. Free transfers and loans is our market. That's still open for a bit longer right and always open for unattached ?

Just read that Boro might be interested in Holy. Imagine if Pulis did the deals- that would be a phone call worth listening in on :-)

The radio kent lads said on Saturday that SL had said the only position he was looking for someone in the transfer market (think they meant permanent) was left back as cover for Garmo. Guess we could see a loan or two as well.

Good job Ogilvie is coming back then!

I am more than happy with the current squad.

Of course the loan window is open soon so if someone from the premier becomes available to us then that will be good. But not if its to the detriment of our youngsters.

I think we have quantity BUT not quality (in reserve) if the first 11 get injured.

I know it's asking a lot but a 15 goal striker (bar Eaves) would have been good.

I really think our front line lacks quality, no real back-up if Holy gets injured and i don't fancy Lacey much if Ehmer/Zak get crocked.

The midfield seems overstaffed but i worry about the quality if the first choices get injured.

Also, doesn't the window close at 5pm Thursday? Not tomorrow.
Personally I preferred the midnight August 31st deadline as it used to be.
While it didn’t really affect Gills, it was always great TV watching the likes of Harry Redknapp rushing around doing last minute deals to sign 3 strikers whilst doing interviews through his car window.
It seems strange that the Premier League will be out of sync with the rest of Europe now, something of a disadvantage also.

I'm surprised as this gives the no-English teams in the Champions League and EL an advantage.

I don't get the benefit.
