So Mother's Day is coming up on May over here. It is a huge event. For some unfathomable reason husbands are supposed to buy the mother of their children (assuming they are still together) a gift. I haven't any problem buying MY mother a gift. But if I don't buy my wife one all hell will break loose!! Not that I mind buying her stuff but I am short of ideas this year.

Any suggestions?

I gave my wife myself. She's hugely impressed with that and can't stop thanking me. She has to write little notes all the time expressing her gratitude and making me endless cups of tea and running errands for me....... Uhhh, Ohhhh, sorry dropped off there for a moment, dreaming again.

Sorry, uh ,NO! The kids can get their own presents, bank of Dad is SHUT! Moved to another (anonymous) locality.

It's always agent provocateur for mine 80 but I'm selfish like that. Ask Spursgirl she will give you a smart answer.

Never bought the wife a gift on Mothers day, and if I did she'd think it was because of a guilty conscience!...The Wife has always told the children to never waste their money on doing it either, she views it as pure commercial nonsense with no basis or grounding worth buying into - so the children spend the day running around after her and preparing a special family meal that they now plan, buy, prepare and serve as well as finally clear up i.e. walk it all to the dishwasher!

I have to choose the champagne/wine we have for pre-dinner and with the meal based upon their menu.

Wife loves it, as it makes it a special all day treat and one that they've had to put real effort into.

MIL occasionally attends, that's the only downside to a great day.

This is North America. Consumerism reigns. However, that is a great idea.

That's great 'EX'. It puts back my faith in human nature. Good thinking mate, on your wife's part as well as yours for supporting it. If only people would do more of this, we might even reclaim British society from the dumps it has been relgated to.

NICE ONE!

So here is what I am doing....I think this is funny.......my wife, my mother and both my M-I-Ls are invited to brunch. Sending all 4 of them off to the spa for the afternoon while the kids are making dinner. They will then return to be fed and watered but the children.

While they are at the spa I will be watching Spurs play Stoke.

Uninterrupted.

A very Happy Mother's Day to all!!!!

And a big thank you to Ex.

That sounds like a great plan...hope you get the much anticipated rewards for your efforts and sacrifice.. :17:

So we ended up doing the above on Saturday and it ended up being a great day that they are all still raving about. Thank you very much for the idea. I will be reaping the rewards for months because I took care of the M-I-Ls as well. I owe you a pint.

I shall now copyright the idea...royalties at the rate of a pint a year...

..now tell the truth; did you say it was all your own idea?!!

The worst 'gift' for a wife I can ever recall was when a friend told his Mrs last year that he had booked her a short break in Ukraine last year 'as she looked like she needed one'...and didn't tell her until we all joined up out there that there was this little thing called the Euro's on at the same time...amused, she was not.

LOL we should collect a bunch of gift stories and start a reality TV show on it. My lovely wife left for Bermuda for a week this morning with 5 of her friends. I have so many points now I'm going to have to put some thought into how to cash them in.

For those that have everything......
