Ghosting in to head a goal at the far post...White, Peters and Alli

I am lucky enough to have seen John White ghosting his way around the pitch to regularly pop up with an important goal. I was too young to fully appreciate his silky skills, but then along came Martin Peters. Comparisons with White were obvious, great engines, great skills and that ability to lose their markers and pop it in at the far post. What a player ! Ten years ahead of his time as Alf Ramsey told us.

And now Dele Alli. In recent weeks his play, in particular his headers, has reminded me more and more of his predecessors. Dele has an arrogance that perhaps they didn't ? An ability to rub his opponents noses in their own mediocrity. The flicks, the nutmegs and the shimmies all announce his superiority.

He has developed so quickly, grown up and shows the potential, if we can keep him, if we win things, to go on to be a true Tottenham legend.

I suspect the hardest aspect of all now will be to hold onto him over the next couple of seasons.

If he stays fit and avoids any long term injuries, he'll continue to improve, if he does that and keeps scoring then the fact that someone like Xabi is talking him up indicates the sort of early Interest that Barca chuck out to prepare the way for a silly bid...

So, as always all we can do is hope that he stays the course and that the club doesn't come under pressure to sell....sooner or later if he keeps on this track even RM will be forced to go all out to sign him...

I grew up watching martin Peters, and believe Alli is a lot better. A month after we bought Alli I said we would end up selling him for more than Bale. If we don't then Levy will not be doing his job properly. Short of a major injury Alli will be gone in the summer. If we sell him him to a prem club I will be bitterly disappointed.

It's so sad that as a Spurs support I have to succumb to that fact we always sell our best players !!
