Getting council housing

Now as some of us who know that have lived in greater london renting a property has become near impossible unless you are earning imo over 2-2.5k a month.

Now a mate of mine who has 2 kids cant even get a council place in croydon because he did to much OT one year to pay of all his credit card bills that he racked up paying deposits for a 1 bedroom place and all the furniture to go in it. He had one kid at that time but now he has 2 he went to the council to get housing but was rejected because of said OT he did. He only earns 1200 without OT and the cost of 2 bedrooms places in that area are 900 plus a month.

He never tried to claim for any housing before but because of one year of OT that has counted against him and he works for a company who are making cuts to balance the books so the OT isnt always there now. You get people ho do the bare minimum of 24 hrs to get all there tax credits and rent paid yet those who actually try get punished. Its not right and the government have just made it easier not to work.

I left greater london 5 years ago because I had enough of giving my hard earned to some wealthy bastard so moved in with my parents for 2 years until I had enough get a mortgage to buy a house as being a single person I could never get a council place....ever

FWIW I bet your mate finds a way.
 
He just signed a lease for a year on a 2 bedroom place in central croydon. That will take most of his wages as a 1 bed in that building is 1k a month. Hes in for a hard year.
 
Tell him to Sub let the other room, so many do that now and get away with it. Play the fecking game.

He probably is.

But what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger - if we use the experience the right way, of course that's often the hardest part.
