George Michael dies at 53

Sad to hear for the music world I'm sure and at such a young age.
Never a nice thing to hear.

Still, he did well living for a year without a heart. ("Last Christmas, I gave you my heart....").

could be HIV-related..

he almost died from pneumonia 5yrs ago, which shouldnt really happen with a relatively fit, athletic bloke in his 40s... would maybe indicate a depleted (and depleting) immune-system..

knowing that treatments were now showing diminishing returns, he may have got very depressed at the ensuing inevitability of his demise and how it would affect his artistic-legacy.... may also explain his fall from a moving vehicle on a motorway..

the words '' he died peacefully at home' would perhaps indicate that his family knew of his illness worsening, and that maybe he was on his deathbed.... obviously didnt want to publicise it beforehand

still... a true icon of recent times of the British cultural scene.

I guess it depends on ones taste in music...did not do much for me to be honest.

A relatiely short life for someone who had enough money to buy the best of health.
Shame for his family though.

I do not personally agree with the statement "still... a true icon of recent times of the British cultural scene"....a bit trite for an ordinary pop singer who could not cope withthe baggage that came with it.

an icon is someone who generally connects with the zeitgeist and heartbeat of the times: 80s and 90s for George Michael, and is not a product of any individual's taste... he was also maybe the 1st global music-star to leave the closet and declare he was gay, when still in the productive years of a long career.

whether he appealed to someone or not, he was part of the soundtrack to many lives of his generation in this country, and beyond.

A very talented musician. A very generous man. He gave millions away to charity and to people who needed help.

RIP

Nothing like a good grovel, it is humbling, you need to try it sometime and get off yer hi orse ... :17:

then I'd be accused of being condescending to a fault :15:

I'm the same age as George and so it brings it home just how fragile life can be. RIP

Tino I am sure that's about the only thing in common . Copious alcohol and drugs plus other transgressions may have contributed to an early death. He admitted he had a self destructive personality.

I like a pint and a glass of wine plus I smoke around 15 fags a day however I've never taken an illegal drug in my life. Having said that I'm a tad over weight and so I'd better be careful.

Sad for the Reynolds family, probably the shock and stress for Debbie Reynolds. Their life styles are not conducive to good health, though. Carrie Fisher had her problems with drugs etc, I understand. It's a pity that lives that could be so productive become either a bad example to the public or get cut short.

George Michael contributed to the economy quite a lot in record sales, concerts etc etc. and people forget that (not my genre of music really but listenable) so a 'useless' tag shouldn't be applied. It's just a pity that the overall view of people like this is often that of a drug taking waster.

I'm a qualified Gym instructor, and on my way to be a a fully qualified Personal Trainer and nutritionist.

Smoking is so bad for you it's unreal. Stop that at all costs. Don't bother with them vapes either, they are just as bad. They cause little micro pockets in your lungs. Breathing problems. We are designed to breathe in air nothing else.

If you stay off the spirits, booze is fine in moderation.

Beer and wine are actually quite good. They make you relax and can help with stress. Beer has an anti inflammatory affect on your muscles. Research suggests it helps with heart disease as well.

Wine certainly the better of the two, has antioxidants in the red grape. Clear out the toxins in your system.

There are more chemicals and crap in your fizzy drinks, your fruit juices and squashes. They are worse.
