General NFFC thread

On interview Nuno repeatedly states the importance of keeping same squad together. He also refers to the importance of preseason training. The nucleus of this squad has been together for over 18 months. Most have the experience of backs to the walls relegation fight, points deductions and run of costly rank officials decisions.

This short break in Dubai must feel like pre season training. They know each others game, strengths and weaknesses and confidence must be high. Fully fit squad. 14 games plus possibly 4 cup fixtures. Target Champions League, plus good cup run. Attainable. Most of opposition have other distractions. It couldn’t be better if it was planned.

We sit in a pretty good position as far as European qualification goes

Realistically there are 9 teams competing for 6 or 7 places depending how the additional CL place goes.

The situation reagarding CL qualification is not too bad either - to get 4th place in the last 5 seasons you needed 68 - 71 - 71 - 67 - 66 points, that is an average of 69 points.

Reaching 69 points means that some of the top 9 have very little margin for error - Fulham can only drop 9 points and Villa can only drop 10 points, and Villa and Fulham have the most games remaining to play against the top 9 - 7 games a piece.

Bournemouth are in the best position; they only have 4 of the top 9 left to play.

Pretty sure it's nailed on for top 5 to be champions league and 6 to 8 to be lesser Europe places now

At least

I'm hoping 65 ish points is enough for top 5

57 ish points for top 8

To be in the position we are as of today to make Champions League would be a dream scenario any season tbh (even if we improved the squad)

It's a really great opportunity that hopefully we will take with both hands

We dont even have to maintain current performance levels to make it happen

Albeit we do need to still perform well of course

Not losing to Fulham next EPL match will be a big help towards 8th place at least

Could take Fulham out of the equation next w/e.

Told you, re injuries: https://www.skysports.com/amp/footb...-in-the-premier-league-but-heres-why-it-helps

Spurs are injured cos Postecoglu has them chasing around and diving into tackles. Forest just let others tire themselves out and then move effectively and at speed. It is a footballing version of Muhammed Ali's rope- a- dope tactic.
Chandos

Various people have been saying this for a few weeks.

It was pointed out on the Bournemouth thread I believe that they are the same.

The Times football podcast were pointing this out in early January actually. Gregor Robertson is on that and is a much better journalist than he was a championship fullback
