General NFFC thread

Could definitely be the perception that EM is investing money in us ahead or instead of investing it in Olympiakos

Which would be correct of course

Essentially what they want is for EM not to own us.
I think they're going to be disappointed.
That is about right.

There is an accumulation of things:

We send them "poor" players we have just signed, whereas EM is spending shed loads on us.

EM is about to spend in excess of 100m on a new stand, which pisses them off even though they have a brand new stadium which is only as few years old.

There is a huge undercurrent of resentment; selling us there best asset would have been the final straw, and they don't fuck about when the are pissed off.

And the media which EM does not own would have gone to town on a story like that.

EM would have to save face in ways he doesn't come close to over here.

I'm not really up on their fans and how they see things but...

From where I'm sitting since we started sending them our players, haven't they won European silverware for the first time ever?

Maybe they should be thankful. But its hard to say that when I'm not following the day to day at their club.

How do you think the optics would look if that deal had gone ahead?

Just look at how some complain about us signing players and sending them to Olympiakos; what kind of reaction do you think there would have been if we signed their brightest talent?

I know some would say "fuck them" but that is not realistic at any level.

Not just their current brightest but they reckon the best talent they have ever produced. They have huge expectations for this kid. They also say the price was £40m in total, I assume with various add ons.

I do not think it would matter; I get the impression they do not like us, period.

There is a lot of envy, particularly with our upturn in fortunes; they used to have a very rich owner who's sole attention was them, not anymore.

If the roles were reversed, we would be just as bitter and twisted as they are.

There was dissent, not specifically due to forest a few years back. There was even talk of EM leaving Greece altogether, that he was pissed off with the various court cases and perhaps what he saw as ungratefulness. Since that time, the cases have gone and its just mutterings. Makes it easier for them that he went on to buy rio ave and wants another one- feels less like abandonment for forest.

To some extent they are correct. The real deals will be at Academy level. The Oly and Rio academies can take under 18’s from all over the world. The Forest academy can’t search for talent outside of UK before that age cut off. Some youngsters, particularly from Africa are being financed by Forest but join the Europe based academies. EM has put money into a Brazilian Academy to do the same in SA.

It would appear to those clubs that Forest are taking some of the academy players but in practice they were bought with Forest funding.
