General Football thread

Just going on the text commentary, I haven't seen it.

The key question is- would we have been given it?
The penalty? Probably not. It was a foul imo, but they could definitely say no and have some argument to use against giving it so if it was us it would probably be no. Its one of those 'stood on the back of his ankle' fouls that we never, ever seem to get given.

Leeds & Burnley both losing, though it was & go for a while good results for us as things stand at moment, though you'd hope we will pull clear of them as the season wears on anyway. Don't knw what would be a good result in this tea time game, I suppose realistically we've got more chance of competing with the likes of Everton than Newcastle, be nice if Fulham later of course.
Newcastle in front already

Its easy to forget after last year how little it takes to pull away from the pack at the bottom of the table.
A few wins can do you for 2 months and you're still gaining points on the teams around you.

Results seriously went our way today.

Tomorrow is a free hit. Any points gained pushes us away from the bottom three. A win and we go 4 points clear.

I think it wouldn't be a bad thing at all for West Ham to beat Liverpool tomorrow as long as we win also. Maroon Leeds and Burnley in the relegation zone- let them see that gap and let it sap their confidence. Far better for them to feel defeated and feel the pressure of that gap than still have one of us in easy reach

Not done us badly really.

Took the playoff second leg and let them get away with playing rugby a bit. Last PL game was our win at Brentford last season. Took our FA Cup semi final and that was fine. Reffed our win at Anfield last season. Most of the defeats have been to the top clubs and uncontroversial. I like him
Also, the only ref I can remember who was sent to the VAR screen to review his on field decision, and stuck by it. Our handball pen v Bournemouth in our first season

Rob Jones actually did the same against West Ham just a couple of weeks earlier in our first home game.

Said no penalty to West Ham, told to go to the screen, stuck with his decision.

That was twice a referee went to the screen and stuck with his decision (in our favour) in our first three home games. I remember those heady days where I genuinely believed that that must be a common occurance with VAR.

I'm not convinced it has ever happened in our favour since
