General Football thread

Newcastle Saudi owners PIF are heavily investing in sport. They are bidding for next World Cup and rebuilding 11 grounds in Saudi state. They are heavily investing in tennis and golf world wide. There are more then rumours that they wish to invest in sport in North East across numerous sports, rebuild St James Park and no quite strong rumours PIF are investing in cricket via the one hundred team based in Durham.

Talksport. It’s official. Nottingham Forest are bigger than Arsenal. Just need to get that stadium built now. Capital of East Midlands.

Taylor, Dale didn’t score.

TBH, I think he, Mighten and Back are above National League level.
League One most definitely.
Why so harsh?

Mighten has done it for us at Championship level. Taylor apparently got rave reviews playing out of position. We've not seen much of Back, and I think he had a bad injury, but they're all potential continuity candidates.

Aren't we the club with the longest record of having a homegrown player in the matchday squad? I wouldn't mind Taylor and Mighten in the squad, coming on as impact subs.

I can never understood the hate on here for Mighten. I still hope the lad makes it one day.

How exaxrly did Mighten do it for us in the Champs?
I think he scored one goal, and he’s had numerous loans at lower than champs level without having any impact.

Taylor has done nothing above league one level, nor Back…and you really think they’ll prove adequate for our EPL squad, just to preserve this youth player thing.

Some of the Forest support so have a weird obsession with this type of thing, for me, wouldn’t give two shits where the players come from as long as they’re good enough for our level…the three mentioned, right now, clearly are not.

It’s not hate, just realism.

put it another way, if Mighten was not “one of our own” and he was another underperforming and probably not good enough in player, y’all be bomb squadding him at the first opportunity.

And another thing, having any in our squad for some sentimental claptrap would only harm their development/finding their level.

But unless they get a chance to come off the bench for 20 minutes and play for the first team, we'll never know whether they might have made it.

I seem to remember BJ playing a couple of games (under Hughton?) before going out on loan. Looked promising...later took us up to the Premiership and earned us £45 million+.

Foreign signings are great, but if you can retain a few home-grown players it helps the fans to bond with the team.

Otherwise, the minute a bad run starts to develop fans start moaning about mercenaries who aren't really trying enough because they've been parachuted in.

Mighten could never produce any final result. He has good dribbling and okay pace but he would always take a guy on and then try and find the next guy to take on instead of finding the pass.
He's been fairly poor on loan no matter which division he's been in.
I'd love for him to come good and work his way into the team but he's got to improve alot for that to happen.

Abbott is the one now, Nuno confirmed he's now a fully fledged part of the first team. Looks a real unit at 18 too. Looks decent on the ball and very good defensively. We just need to continue to allow him to develop and learn his trade without to much pressure.

He's the reason we're not going after another centre back. Full plaudits to him.

Risky at this level. Very.

Wouldn't have thought twice in the championship. But at this level?

With Niakhate gone, we have a weak defence with no depth. All it takes is one injury and you are relying on Boly's fitness, a kid or Omobamidele

Abbott needs a loan out to get enough minutes to develop I think
