I don’t remember the Pearly King though . I was around that area a lot as a child , as my Dads Family all came from Bermondsey , most of them working as Lightermen on the Barges , although my Grandad worked in the Tea Warehouse in the East India Dock at Tower Bridge . He used to take me to work with him occasionally on Bank Holiday Mondays when it was quiet. Fascinating place , huge buildings .

Well Walt the characters and charm of old London as we knew it has gone. I had mates in Canning Town living in terraced houses in rows upon rows of streets near the docks and the huge Tate and Lyall Factory and the awful smell of the Mattesson's Meat Pies manufacturing plant! Their dads and uncles all worked in the docks of course.....now of course are all high rise gated developments with hi security, no community at all, no one on the streets yapping.....dead as are all the pubs that were on almost every street corner....

'We gave everything that was asked' - Woking director hits back after Defoe exit​

Woking's director of football has denied there was a rift with Jermain Defoe, following the former England international's departure from the club.
Defoe left his role as Woking head coach after just 116 days in charge, saying "it was impossible" to continue and describing his first managerial role as "eye-opening".
However, Woking's director of football Jody Brown has said Defoe was provided with "everything" he asked for.
Brown, replying to a supporter via X on Thursday evening, said: "Of the vast number of triallist, I did not choose one. Not one. Jermain led all recruitment and all triallists. All Jermain's contacts, all linked to him. Every single one. Empty promises? We gave everything that was asked. Everything. I'm sure it'll all come out in due course."

Germany appoint Klopp as head coach​

Germany have appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new head coach.
Klopp returns to management on a contract that runs until the 2030 World Cup after leaving Liverpool in 2024 because he was "running out of energy", having won six trophies at the club in nine years.
The 59-year-old had been working as Red Bull's global head of football and succeeds Julian Nagelsmann in the role after his Germany side were knocked out of the World Cup at the last-32 stage by Paraguay on penalties.

The International Olympic Committee says it will not investigate Gianni Infantino as a complaint about the Fifa president is outside its scope.
Human rights campaign group FairSquare complained to the IOC that Infantino had breached its charter by failing to adhere to rules on political neutrality "through statements or other clear expressions of support for the US president".
US President Donald Trump admitted during the World Cup that he had called Infantino to ask him to review a red card given to US striker Folarin Balogun.
The forward was expected to miss his side's last-16 tie against Belgium after being sent off during their 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina.
But, after the intervention from Trump the one-match ban was suspended for 12 months. No reason was given, beyond citing a rule that allows punishments to be suspended.
Balogun started the match, which Belgium won 4-1.
Infantino has been a member of the IOC since 2020.
Section two of the Olympic charter states: "Members of the IOC will not accept from governments, organisations, or other parties, any mandate or instructions liable to interfere with the freedom of their action and vote."
The IOC said the complaint against Infantino fell outside the jurisdiction of its ethics commission.
"The current complaint, with regard to the Fifa president, refers only to the international federation's decisions on its governance and its management, including its relations with government, and to the international federation's implementation of the rules of its sport, which are both outside the scope of application of the IOC code of ethics," it said.
The IOC statement came a day after it emerged the Norwegian Football Federation was considering filing a formal complaint to Fifa's ethics committee about the decision to suspend Balogun's automatic one-match ban.
In a statement provided to the BBC, NFF president Lise Klaveness said the federation had reacted with "strong concern" and a decision on whether or not to make a complaint would be made at its next board meeting.
The federation has already filed a complaint about Fifa's first Peace Prize being awarded to Trump.
Fifa has been contacted for comment.
