Gay footballers

DeanoVilla

One Bloody Number
Just saw Skeggy mention this on Facebook so thought I'd see what people thought on here.

Apparently 3 high profile footballers are going to come out as gay, but are seeking advice from the PFA as to the best way to do it.

Seriously?

a) Why?
b) See a)

I just find it completely bizzare. For me whether it's race, immigration, sexuality.... people are people.... why does it even matter?

If gay players have to publically declare their sexuality, then shouldn't straight players have to do the same? What about the ones who like a bit of both, or like to dress up in their mom's panties...

Maybe we should have a database? It can then be used on the Football manager game.

Imagine doing a scouting search based on sausage rating.

When will folk just grow up and realise people's personal preference just doesn't matter as long as it's not hurting anyone.... (and I think they use lube to stop that)... :3:

I don't care where Jonathan Kodjia puts his winky as long as it's not in me!

And to be honest if it was after a hat-trick against the Blues I'd be inclined to turn a blind eye to that.

Or a japs eye even !!!!

Anyway I agree . It a poor reflection on society and football crowds in particular that players feel they have to hide their sexuality.

Or that they should feel the need to announce it.

Yeah, strange one.

Trouble is they might want to be going out publicly with their boyfriend and because this society is so effed up, if they did that without coming out first, the papers would make a big thing of it.

I don't get it. I'm not bothered what people do relationship wise (as long as it is legal and consensual obviously) but I guess they do need to come out just purely because society is a gossip ladened idiotic mess.

Personally until players feel able to come out then it will always be a big deal. I agree Deano that I don't care about the private lives of footballers but the problem is not with the gay community but with the general public. It will take these brave pioneers to come out to take the stigma out of this issue.

Or maybe they want to lead the way and make it ok for other players not to worry about being "found out". It was a tragedy that Justin Fashanu was a tortured soul in trying to hide his sexuality and eventually took his life and Gareth Thomas said his life was a mess until he came out and it was the best thing he ever did.

It's only a big deal because there aren't any openly gay players (in the men's game anyway).

I'd imagine that the first openly gay players will get a lot of abuse from the 'terraces' but nothing more than gingers or fat footballers get.

Gay people need to get over themselves. It's 2016. Nobody cares.

It's very stressful hiding your sexuality. Add in the high profile status, with the attending paparazzi, and you create a situation that nobody should have to go through.

By coming out you control the narrative, rather than some gutter tabloid doing so.

Yes BB. I think baldies should get more abuse as well.

I agree with a lot of what you say Sir Den but I have to disagree on this one........not that I have a vested interest you understand. :15:

No, the people that react so strangely to gay people need to get over themselves. It's 2016.

Perhaps your post is because you don't realise some get abused for just walking hand in hand down the street as per one of our mates on here?

It's mental. The world is mental! They have nothing to get over really, it's the Neanderthals who do.

The big question is, will anyone, other than the odd clown, react? After all, no one seems to care about recently retired footballers like Der Hammer "comming out". 20 or even 10 years ago and I'd agree but now it's almost de rigueur to come out as gay. I'd not be surprised if, in some circles, a very small minority do it purely for effect and are, in fact, not gay, a bit like Bowie in the 10970s (except that his was drug induced.)

That was a joke. Probably not a very good one but I do my best.

Terrace banter is inevitable though.

Matthew Upson used to get it terribly when he came to Villa Park.

As BB says, the fats get it, the gingers get it, no doubt the gays will get it. Now will they just laugh it off, or will it become a massive thing with fans being prosecuted etc?
