The thing is Dan, we need to keep examining whether those religious beliefs discriminate or harm others. Many believe the Bible allows them to be homophobic (it doesn't) and yet we stop that. t also says adulterers should be stoned and we should shun anyone that does not believe in God.

You can just assume someones faith absolves them of responsibility in society.

It's funny but, the Christian Bible, also known as the New Testament, does quite often get it's teachings over-looked, or ignored completely.
The Old Testament is basically Judaism, teachings of punishments for being different to the masses. Teachings of hatred for others etc.
The New Testament teaches a new way. And actually teaches acceptance of homosexuality, (depending on how you read it), it does say for you to love your neighbour as you love yourself and it is pretty well 99.9% of people who use self-gratification, you can carry on that thought for yourselves. Christianity is all about 'turning the other cheek', 'loving your neighbour', 'offering a helping hand to those less fortunate' and 'tolerance'.
Now if so called Christian countries lived to basic Christian beliefs, don't you think the world would be a better, safer place.
Matthew 23 is my favourite read in the New Testament.

Good post '58. You can't believe the number of times Christians quote the Old Testament to me, and it was meant to have been "fulfilled" by Jesus, which basically means Jesus's teachings supersede it.

It's such a shame that most don't know this. I'm sure that Jesus would have wanted a gay couple to be happy, and have the same rights as anyone else.

The thing is in main stream Christian beliefs they take the container and do not explore the contents.

These are the words of Fr Richard Rohr who is a Franscian Friar and a mystic Christian which is now what I identify as, meaning I identify as a Mystic Christian and exploring within.

The take on The Bible is manmade and was never meant to be read like that. The literalusm only came in in the last 500 years or so. It's hard to believe context of the time isnt taking either in the world we live in now.

Heath is right in its exploring why they wouldn't write it. It has to be ensured it is not through homophobia.

It's contentious whichever way it goes.

I still attend my church fellowship however have learnt to discern what to say and not too including how to put things over. I have learnt to that perhaps I can pass on my ideas and help others explore their beliefs.

Main streak Christianity is immature and lost it's way 100s of years ago. I have always been a mystic Christian however did not realise it until this year when I started to explore further my beliefs after losing David.
