Apologies to the original poster of "Some potential good news" for stealing his thread name, but when I saw it, it struck me that there has been a huge amount of negative vibes on here over the last few days. The main points of issue seem to be;
* we are able to sell out an away ticket allocation in excess of c2000 in a matter of minutes
* we have potentially sold our "best" player (who cost about £60k) for an unknown figure, but likely to be 50 to 100 fold the original investment
* we have "sold" our coach to a rival for a figure likely to be in excess of £1m
* we have been hammered in some meaningless pre season warm up games and the management (largely the same as last season) don't know what they're doing anymore
* we are buying and potentially buying international players for reportedly in excess of £1m who have no pedigree
* we will only increase our EFL money by about £9m
So, all that got me thinking about the euphoria of only about 2 months ago, what was the point, and how can euphoria turn to despair in such a short period??
The good news (fairly obvious really).
* playing at our highest level in 65 years and something I never thought I'd see in my 50 years of being an Imp.
* paying transfer fees such as the above.
* making huge profits on our best assets.
* having the best stadium facilties seen ever.
* having the best training facilities seen ever.
* having for the first time ever a waiting list to get a season ticket.
* having the greatest turnover ever experienced, with the best entrepreneurs providing the expertise.
* having the best CEO in our history.
* having the best recruitment policy ever.
* having the best analysts and systems ever.
I know I'm just stating the obvious but the recent angst on here amuses me. Perhaps we should go back to the good old days when we had players no one else wanted, debts that no one wanted to fund, a crumbling stadium that either belonged to the council or was mortgaged up to the hilt?
I for one am going to embrace every minute of this opportunity, and yes it's going to be a new level of difficulty, but that's why there was euphoria abound in May!
Bring it on.
