LynxRed
Vital 1st Team Regular
Hi folks,
I've checked with OKD and got the thumbs up to share a fundraiser on the forum. I know a couple of fellow vital posters have had battles with cancer and lost loved ones over the years, and so this might be close to a few posters.
The sad bit;
I lost a friend to cancer last month. He had difficulty swallowing food around Christmas, was diagnosed with oesophaegal cancer in February, and died on 11th July. He was 38 years old, and leaves behind his wife and two young daughters. I'd known him forever. We were 2 months apart in age, our parents were friends and so we played together as babies, went to school together and stayed best mates right through. I used to drag him down to the WFCG for matches and whilst I never quite converted him to a true Forest fan, he watched the reds more than any other team.
The challenge bit;
Myself, his brother, brother-in-law and a couple of other friends are going to attempt the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the tallest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours. That's Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. It's a different way to spend a weekend, compared to queueing for chips at the Bridgford Fish Bar, having a quick pint to wash it down and then taking my seat in the upper BC. We're starting on 7th September, and finish with our ascent of Snowdon on 8th September - the 39th birthday of our late friend. When we take on the challenge I'll be doing a live track of our progress up and down each mountain and I'll drop the link into this thread for you boys to see my suffering if you so wish.
The begging for money bit;
Obviously there's no pressure to donate, but if you can spare a couple of quid I'd be really grateful. If you can't then no worries, just wish me luck and it will be appreciated all the same! If you do want to donate, the link is below. All the money raised goes straight to St Barnabas, who supported my friend and his family through the end of life stages and made such a huge difference to them.

Thanks for reading gents, and I'll see you over on the other threads where we can all be light-hearted snerts smashing the alert button, calling everyone chap and adding this to the idiots-taking-on-more-than-they-can-handle spreadsheet.
