About time too. Outrageous that someone can be discriminated against because of his disability.

He's committed no offence.

These medicines rules seemed to be getting severely tested.

Just the shot in the arm he needed.

I can't remember the figure but was amazed when I heard what a high percentage of cyclists suffer from asthma and "have" to take prescribed drugs compared to the rest of the population. Quite incredible how many "asthmatics" choose to take up the sport.

I had a look back at the last 2 decades or so of Tour de France winners. IIRC other than 2 individuals all the others were asthmatic or tainted by drug-taking.

We all know what’s happening with this asthma shit but while these rules are what they are then no-one’s committing an offence.

I don't think it's anything to do with committing an offence Trev, more to do with remedying a recognised medical condition.

If we all agree that the maximum lung capacity is 100% and an asthmatic only has say, 80% then the medication can bring him/her to nearer the 100%
You can never gain an advantage because 100% is always the maximum. All you can do is negate the disadvantage.

Many footballers are asthmatic. Just ask around.

Like I said, I can't remember the figure for cycling "asthmatics" compared to the average in the population but it was way higher. Excuse my cynicism but is it an amazing coincidence or is it made up bollocks by most of the riders?

Reminds me of the cheating by Sharapova in tennis for all those years (allegedly).

Could it just be that cyclists take more pollutants into their lungs than average .

I'm asthmatic, and frankly the only way that I ever get flare ups is through exercise. I was diagnosed as a kid, but if I hadn't been diagnosed then, and I hadn't been in to playing sport in my youth, then I wouldn't have gone to the doctors to ask why I was so ludicrously out of breath compared to the other lads.

Chances are if I only went to the gym, or did a little bit of casual sport, that I might have never gotten diagnosed.

Point I'm making is that I reckon exercised induced asthma is probably rather under-diagnosed in the general populous.

The article below also makes an interesting point that if you spend your entire life outside on the roads breathing in huge gulps of polluted air, the chances of you acquiring asthma are unsurprisingly far higher than if you work indoors all day.
