Fox News broadcast "expert" who says Birmingham is "totally Muslim"

I'm not totally convinced * that people really need to be lampooning religion?

*I am not saying that the reaction they got was at all deserved, of course it wasn't, a picket outside or campaigns to boycott the magazine if anything, not 'that'.

**I am aware that I go ott on religion at times so maybe a tinge of mixed messages, or can I even say a slight hypocrisy...?! Not sure.

I do wish though that the world was grown up enough to take freedom of speech and not have to bow to pc brigade or indeed these far more sinister sort of reactions.

I find running this network more and more difficult and stressful. We had a press stitch up recently where they took 5-6 bad posts off a site but not the reactions TO those bad posts. Plus when I also mentioned in their defence the charity work the site did and the positives, plus how many were registered, how many posts there were, how few were offensive, it was totally ignored and it was deemed 'all' those fans on the whole message board.

(and no I won't be stitching them up saying which!)

why can't people say and think what they want and get lambasted if it is utter crap or offensive to others?

Come on Fear. You know why. Some people love to be offended. A bit of righteous indignation makes their day!!!! That's why the Daily Mail is so popular.

The fox news guy wasn't too wide of the mark. A lot of areas in Birmingham and many other cities are now muslim areas. As far as "extremism" goes I can't possibly put it better than this:

[youtube=LfKLV6rmLxE]

Islam is a Religion of peace as much as Christianity is. You take from each what you want. The extremists just manipulate the Koran to justify their agenda, as do the extreme Christians.

I know. Where did I defend Christianity and what has Christianity got to do with it? The reason these two religions are the largest is because they are and have been the most violent. You actually just prove my point for me. Extremism would not be a problem if the religion itself was peaceful. So extremism is not the problem here.

But there is also an argument that you can compare the life and example of Jesus to the Life of Muhammed. I will leave you to do that for yourself and see what you find.

Your initial post unfairly mentions just Islam, so I though it necessary to balance things out. There are those here that will jump on it as an excuse to hate Muslims. I can't see how my avoiding this could offend anyone, but if it does I apologise.

As for your second point, I think you need to address your definition of extremism. They twist and turn anything to suit their agenda. It does not matter that the original texts and structure were peaceful, they will manipulate them. Even Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism have had their violent followers. If they did not follow the religion they do, they would be fanatical about something else.

And yes, I have studied both religions, along with the lives of the main protagonists. There are many parallels, and many fallacies for each. Much research now confirms that both stories are more fiction than fact, and both claim persecution from day 1, which helps justify the violence they now use. Neither is right.

Unfairly mentioned Islam? This entire topic is about a man saying Birmingham is a Muslim city. This whole discussion comes off the back of what happened in Paris.

Answer me this, if I had praised Islam would you say I was unfair to mention it? Nope. This is the funny thing, You can criticise any religion you want, but when you criticise Islam it is an unfair attack. Secondly I criticised Islam not Muslims. I don't hate anyone. If they keep their nonsense to themselves they are fine by me. That "hate muslims" comment is a naff attempt to guard your dodgy wicket.

If any religion has been unfairly brought into this debate it is Christianity because it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. It is not me who used the phrase extremism so I don't need to define it. My first point should tell you that I think it is a logical fallacy. I can see what position you are coming from and it is pointless arguing about this.

I will leave it here because these discussions always end up going overboard and in the end they are pointless, people will believe what they want. All religion should be treated with complete and utter disrespect and contempt. It is a nonsense belief in an imaginary man and we should all stop entertaining it.

I have the answer.
Everyone declares themselves a Muslim.(but keep your fingers crossed behind your back).
All the terrorists and extremists will go home and watch Eastenders then.
Job`s a good `un

Anyone else need to know anything ? :17:

That answer is more extremely correct than you realise (that doesn't sound right, I know) as Muslims think that all people are born Muslims and we go off the rails. True!

:14:

You post a video showing how Islam is not a peaceful religion, but don't feel that will incite religious hatred? Did you know it against the Law to do so on an open Forum? In addition, you add no balance to show other religions and their position on this, thus further exacerbating the situation.

I never said you hated Muslims, but that it could incite others to. There is a huge difference between the two. Not everyone is as well educated as you, and we all have a responsibility when posting anything to take this into account.

What is my position? I would love to know what you think it is, and if it is close to the truth.

I thought this made interesting reading. This is far less about Islam, and more about power and anti-US Sentiment.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-30681224

During my conversations I have had with Iraqi tribal leaders, many acknowledge that their sons join the IS caravan not because of its Islamist ideology but as a means of resistance against the sectarian-based central authority in Baghdad and its regional patron, Iran.

The group's swift capture of most of the so-called "Sunni Triangle", suicide bombings - particularly targeting of the Shia - and anti-US rhetoric appeal to the Sunni youth who feel that the country had been humiliated and colonised by the US with Iran's backing.

York is in the majority white British: We have 1 Muslim school, which is above a row of flats and the majority don't know it is there. I only know cos we did a job for them back in the 1990's.

We do have alot of Poles (waits for the jokes) living here. The City centre in the tourist season it is take your pick from any country you wish, as it is full of half the world or it seems like it

To be fair the guy did apologize and is apparently making a donation to birmingham childrens hospital. Although you'd have thought such a bold and extreme claim they would check it before they said, and it sums up everything wrong with American media. The stuff about London was equally ridiculous too. It's all propaganda, scare mongering, and praise the USA.

People moan about the BBC as if it's corrupt but it is a very reliable and well respected news company. Might be a little on the governments side, but it's never on a crazy agenda like Fox news and other US news companies.

Normal Americans' beliefs are completely deluded in so many ways. They get taught certain things at school, forced into thinking a certain way through the media and then reinforced by popular culture e.g. TV/Movies. All you have to do is read comments on youtube or whatever on a video about England, all it is OMG England is so scary no one has guns so how can you protect yourself etc? OMG free health care.. why should poor people get the same as rich people? etc. To a normal person these things sounds retarded, but to an American this is what they get brainwashed into believing, partly because of bollocks news like this that use scare mongering lies to force people into believing the USA is the best country in the world . If the US try to change stuff, e.g. gun regulation, health care, etc then it proves America isn't the best country because so many big changes need to be made to become equal to the rest of the world. So of course they try to sweep their problems under the rug and criticize every other country, often with over exaggerations or blatant lies, in order to preserve this myth that they are the only great nation, and any changes like health care, benefits, gun regulation will cause the US to descent into anarchy like they claim the rest of the world is. (By the way benefits and gun control have been blamed by American media for the French terrorist attacks last week)

Apparently Fox News was misquoted, what they actually said was that parts of Birmingham were no goal areas...
