Four Different Comps In 15 Days

Vital Football Legend
Pep Guardiola and his players are well aware of their upcoming fixture list. But, when one actually takes a look...wow it's going to be a hectic 15 days all for concerned.

City players have, as of today returned from a short four day R&R break. So, fingers crossed one or two aching bones, muscles and joints have had the opportunity to recuperate from what can be described as a hectic season thus far.

Is the City squad big enough to cope?

No I do not think it is big enough. It is full of talent, but injuries have added extra work load to those who need a break, Aguero is one example, he may want to play all the games, but physically it will tire him and that goes for the others in the squad, rotation is a good thing and given valuable respite to those who need it most.

PG (apparently) prefers to work with smaller squads - perhaps in the English game a slightly larger one is required compared with some of the leagues on mainland Europe.

Where do you stop though - no one knows what injuries will occur in advance so do you buy a third left back just in case the first two get injured? On the plus side who knew that Delph would make a decent stand in as a left back, probably not even Fabian knew that that. Give youth a chance - not in the Big Mal way of selling off the stars and pitching in a shed load of inexperience but in a gradual way, here and there, like Guardiola has had to with Diaz (and probably Flood were he not crocked).

Would it have been better if Roberts and Maffeo could have been recalled?

GJ33 and Mendy are anticipated to return sooner and later, Delph and Foden can't be injured forever, VK4 has played a couple of full games recently and such is the strength of depth at centre back that even former defensive kingpin Mangala has managed to blag himself a couple of months thrusting his arm in the air claiming offside at Goodison.

Good times.

Roberts has already been recalled, recalled to City's treatment room in December, not expected to be back playing until March.

No point recalling Maffeo, even if it was possible, as we already have two fit right backs.

Yes but what if they get injured or Walker gets suspended again and Danilo is already covering at left back? What will become of us then?

Cut to image of PG wringing his hands and weeping tiny tears of frustration.

Perhaps if we hadn't let Celtic play with Roberts then he wouldn't have got broken, who is to say. Perhaps we just need to buy everybody?

Not sure that Roberts will develop to the point that he comes back into the City first team squad, so out on loan they go until sold or the contract runs out.
