Pretty much a howler of a half from Wharton. Awful, anonymous. He's taken to decent corners and gotten a yellow card

Apart from that, all he's done is demonstrate what England are missing when Anderson isnt on
 
ITV so desperate to wank off Wharton and their clips to show how good he was are of two forward passes that don't really get anywhere, a yellow card and him standing between two Albania making himself unavailable for the ball while the game goes on around him

Which, in fairness, sums up that half for him

Keane called him out a bit.

He’s just hiding, which is exactly why England have been poor in midfield down the years - Anderson adds so much energy and desire to win the battle. It’s another reason a club like United or whoever is deciding who to try and in buy in midfield, Anderson is miles ahead… he’s proved he can walk into a new environment and deliver to his highest level. Wharton looks too nervous to show for the ball

England immediately look like a proper side with a dominant midfield as soon as Anderson came on

He's done far more in 20 minutes that Wharton managed in 70

Wharton managed 42 passes in 75 minutes.

Anderson was on 31 after 15
 
Solid game from Wharton. Obviously, playing the majority of the game is going to prove skiewed when looking at bare stats.

That miss from Quansah must be galling for Adam, as that ought to have been a stonewall assist.

Elliott did well when he came on, apart from hammering the ball out of play and leaving his teammates short with a few hospital passes; but he patrolled a 10 man albania after they lost broja with acres of space to play in ok, miles behind the play.
 
I was having a debate with some brain dead palace fans yesterday who all thought Wharton should be starting for England

Couldn’t wrap their heads around he’s not even half the player Anderson was

So I decided to watch his highlight reel on you tube. It’s 8 minutes long. 5.5 minutes are clips of him at Blackburn or making slide tackles

That’s it. He should be behind Henderson, Gallagher, Mainoo for next up after Anderson or Rice

One thing to bear in mind, so-called football fans belittleing ENGLAND (not Forest, Palace, Man U, Barca or whatever) players is, frankly, baffling...but opinions like arseholes, bud!
