Forest in Europe: The 2025-26 Europa League Thread

Also, whatever the merits of the underlying decision, the reason that the deadline for shares to be put in blind trusts was precisely to avoid this nonsense, and to introduce certainty in relation to things like which players might sign, as well as actually allowing the clubs to make arrangements to play the actual fixtures.

Assuming that the information from Pope etc is right, the playoffs for ECL are in August. How is any club supposed to make arrangements, which may include obtaining visas for Azerbaijan or somewhere, let alone scout the opponents, or organise training properly? Although people keep asserting that the rules themselves are stupid, they are not. They allow the competition to function properly and fairly.

The Conference League playoffs are 21st and 28th August

CAS decision due by 11th August

I believe the playoff draw will be 14th August after the third qualifying round. So CAS are timing their decision to be before that. 14th to 21st August will be all the time that anyone gets for visas etc I guess.

Oh I see. That. So the pressure on arrangements applies anyway, irrespective of all this.
However, which players might sign, and whether the teams even have a fixture on those days ( ECL yes; Europa no) is not.

I can see why UEFA have these rules.

Exactly

Our game against Palace for instance has already been moved to accommodate this playoff game and give us a day's more rest. It is sheer coincidence that this rescheduling happens to remain useful regardless of the outcome.

I agree that it affects our negotiations with players. But it also affects our own (painfully slow) timeline of transfers. If we have a do or die European knockout game in three weeks, we need to know because we need to get some fucking players in ready. If not then it is just three extremely winnable and precious Premier league games that we are jeopardising with our approach

Forest will play in the Conference League. It's clear they're going to screw us over. We need to attract the best players possible to have the best team possible. Next year we have to play in Europe again.

Should that unlikely event happen, wonder where that leaves Palace fans and their conspiracy theories?

The rules are there to ensure not only fairness but appear fair. Same family not having two clubs in a fixture so as to avoid friction.

Imagine the tension in the Bronze/Batlle household leading up to Sunday. Lucy Bronze left back for England and Ona Batlle LB for Spain. They are a couple and have been for a while.

They have named us in their appeal case, so we have to have representation. They have made the appeal effectively about us and Lyon
Yeah they have named UEFA, Forest and Lyon in their appeal. We don’t have to have representation but it makes sense that we do.

In fairness, worst case scenario for us is we drop back to the Conference League and that’s out of our control so not worth worrying about.

It seems prudent and sensible to have representation. CP will no doubt throw mud and it needs to be robustly rebuffed.

I feel sorry for their fans, well those who haven't lost the plot as they won the FA Cup and deserve European football.

Surely this appeal is to appease the fanbase? They are bang to rights as evidenced in their initial expulsion. I'm not sure trying to show collusion between Forest, Lyon and UEFA is the smartest way to go. CP are deflecting their own incompetence onto us and it's out of order.
