Forest in Europe 24/25

We need to keep it tight

Get a clean sheet and snatch a goal. Same as always against bigger name teams when we are at home

I've seen some Chelsea fans speculating we will have to go at them as we need a win and they can sit back and catch us out on the counter attack

That would be entirely playing into their hands I think.

Personally I am also happy holding CHO back til about the 60th minute and then sending him on
They need to equal Villa’s result to ensure they qualify so I can’t see them sitting back. Their fans and owners are going to be a lot more hung up on qualifying for the CL…

This is very much our Cup Final this season

We can send Chelsea down from Champions League into Conference League as well with one result

It's a horrible position for them to be in coming to the WFCG

Its almost a player off final. Difference is what £40-50m riding on the outcome?

Its a brilliant way to end the season. Nothing to lose from our perspective.

And they need Champions League way more than we do

Might even cost Maresca his job if it goes badly wrong for them with us and their Conference League final (which is a back up for qualifying for Europa League for them)

Betis are very capable. 6th in Spanish league so no mugs and plenty of experience. Will be by far Chelsea’s most difficult European opponents.

Agreed Wolf, we don't want to be attacking and trying to break them down if they're sitting in solid and compact.

But, Chelsea want Champions League. They need to win to secure it, and have a second bite of the cherry to get Europa if they do lose on Sunday.

They've got everything to gain from a win, but a loss isn't game over for them because they have the Conference final to get a trophy and Europa.

I can't see them playing for a draw and chancing it on a couple of counters, they need the win as badly as we do.

At the end of the day we might still need Chelsea to win that if we only draw with them to get us into Europa

So I'm not going all in against them yet !!

Lol

We just need to avoid going gung ho though

For sure if we can keep a clean sheet that's best chance of us improving from conference league one way or another

We will get chances however tight we keep it at the back

(I remember Eufa cup quarter final second leg v Bayern Munich at home. We were 2-1 down from first leg. We really went at them big time first 15 to 20 mins. They just soaked it up. Scored on the break. And from there went on to hammer us 5-1 i seem to remember)

First goal absolutely crucial next Sunday

And scoring that first goal late on won't be a problem to me

I posted the line up question yesterday on who drops out for CHO.

Interesting debate and all points made have merit.

CHO if he starts, could he last the 90? No more games after this, so worth the risk

Or, as some posted, hold him back till the 60th minute?

Anderson plays and Yates beside him would really wind up some of their players.
I cannot stand that mop haired twat Cuccerrella. If anyone deserves a first minute, 2 footed across his thigh, it’s that asshole.

We need to ensure Palmer is quiet. Our fullbacks need to be on it v their wingers, but they don’t have a striker

I’d maybe go for Dominguez work rate alongside Anderson for this one

I made a comment along those lines about sangare that may have been miss leading about my thoughts. I think he will help us be a bit more patient and retain good possession when needed.

I do think we will need to be able to mix it up a bit more next season and be more prepared for breaking down teams who play like us. On the whole though id expect our main style to remain very similar.
It would be interesting to look at the % possession figures whilst we are drawing.
As an example yesterday, I would guess that we had at least as much possession as West Ham until after we scored and probably upto half time. When we score we tend to sit back - it is natural for the winning team to do this as the opponents come at them to try and get back into the game. We tend to score first more often than not.

The games we have lost - we have had better possession - this is because we are chasing the game.

The key to me is not how much - but what we do with it.
This is what needs to improve.

Fully agree - play our normal game - keep it tight.
A last minute winner is just as good as a first minute winner.

If everybody is fit, I'd start the same 11 as yesterday and keep to similar tactics in a 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-1-3-2

Sangare for his languid composure in front of the back 4 and his ability to pass the ball forward.

Anderson and Dominguez for their work rate and battling qualities. Given license to rampage around the middle of the pitch and hunting down opposition players.

MGW at the tip of the diamond as a deep 10 playing between their 18 yard line and half way into our half allowing him to get on the ball high and threaten the area or low and ping one of his long balls to the flanks(s). Supporting the midfield 2 or the forward 2 as the situation demands.

Elanga up front nominally alongside Wood but a free role to go either side as he wants.

CHO coming on at 60 minutes to get his regulation cut in from the left onto his right and curl the ball into the top far corner for the win.

Chelsea don't travel well and we'll all be up for it. We can win this.

It's gonna be epic.

We cannot give ref any excuse to send a player off. They dive everywhere…but cucurella will deffo snap if pushed enough.

We need balance though and options both wings and cannot allow Fernandes and palmer to run unchallenged in the middle

I think that is why Dominguez starts - he can run all day playing alongside Sangare & Anderson
