Forest in Europe 24/25

Great Fred guys!
I'm on a 9 hour coach trip from North Thailand, to Bangkok and just read the the whole thing from start to finish. Makes for fascinating reading and some great insight from some 😁

It feels like a Grand National type finish, where we have led the whole way around, but now we are in the sprint for the line we are so tired! That finish line can't co.w soon enough now 💪💪 COYR

Watching bits of most of the Euro matches involving English clubs lately

A lot of the European away fans literally never stop singing?

We will have our work cut out making more noise than most of these teams make

So, Bournemouth winning puts 8th place back 9 points from us with 18 left to play for.

Some on Facebook are saying that result guarentees us Europe in some form. It doesn't, but it does make it more likely.

Only way top 8 don't make Europe now is if Crystal Palace win the FA Cup apparently

At which stage it would just be top 7

Which helps

9th downwards are running out of games to overtake us. Last nights result helped with that for sure

And we would need a total derailment to get caught by any that are 9th or lower

Villa's next two games help us if we can get points on the board vs spurs. We have to be going into this one to win it and take advantage of their current state and lack of focus on league.

Villa have Newcastle and city next up so there is no way that set of fixtures doesn't put us in a better position if we put ourselves in position to take advantage.

If we get caught by 8th we are caught by 10th. Our goal difference is nothing special. Keeping 7th and above has to be the goal. We drop below that and we might well end up 10th

However, a top half finish is almost certain. 11th placed Brentford on 43, 14 behind with 18 to play for

That would assume top 10 all take good points between now and end of the season.

Very few will be able to average 2 points per game in the run in

Indeed only Liverpool have managed to average 2 points per game this season so far. Arsenal just below it

They ain't all turning into top 2 form teams all of a sudden Pope

From last 6 games 9 points would be a great return for any of them between 8th and 10th tbh

Which is why most will think we are already in Europe

Games are running out.

They don't need to

They need to win half their remaining games to catch us if we keep losing. And it's only if we keep losing that they catch us

oh yeah, shocking maths by me there.

whatever happens it does look like 3-5 spots are going to be very close after 38 games.

I'm going go with us in 4th, Newcastle 3rd and City 5th with about a point between each team

Not trying to stir the hornet's nest here but I'm not expecting us to get anything from our next two games. However I do think we will beat Brentford and Leicester at home and quite possibly get draws against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and West Ham. 9 points minimum from the remaining fixtures giving us a minimum points total of 66. More than enough to ensure Europa league football at a minimum and what an outstanding achievement that will be. Europa league competition used to be the UEFA Cup and I don't remember thinking it disappointing when we qualified for that competition under Clough and Clark.

True, but undet Clough and I think also Clark, UEFA Cup waa good because only Champions in European Cup. Now it is more for also rans, albeit winning it gets into Champions League.

That would be an amusing way of getting into Champions Keague. Forest are already only team ti have more European Cup wins than league titles.

because we dont play till Monday, we could be 6th by the time the game starts :(

really would like to see Newcastle drop a few points. I see Howe has pneumonia and may need to sit out the rest of the season. Don't wish ill on him, but maybe that impacts them a bit?

Opta now has us finishing 5th on 66 pts beind newcastle and City, with Villa 6th on 63 pts

gonna be close

I would kill to finish the season on 66 points and take my chance that it's enough for top 5

I’d almost take guaranteed EL at the expense of chance of CL. I definitely will if we lose against Spurs.
The ramifications of missing out altogether on Europe would be massive.
It would feel like starting again in the prem, new manager, rebuild of squad, everyone talking about avoiding relegation again.

I’m still fascinated by the Man City situation - we know they’re going to get off completely, but how come it’s being delayed and delayed? We got a points deduction at the absolute worst time. They’re just continuing to do what they want. Even a small points deduction would be massively advantageous to us.

I strongly suspect the wait is to ensure they can give them a “no damage” punishment. If they finish 3rd, they’ll get a deduction that takes them to 5th. Giving the appearance of a punishment.
