Football Town

Oh i didn't realise it was measured on pay on the day cup competitions.

The 1,983 v Salford or 2,077 v Wycombe not count then?

Show anyone who doesn't support Latics those crowds and and nine out of ten would say the largest crowd was for the Rugger boys match simply because the myth is there irrespective of Salford or Wycombe. Really good post this.

How many lads play in the Wigan Ammy league every week. Then add the season ticket holders who go to football albeit not Latics then add Latics attendances to the mix and then try and tell me its a rugby town coz its an absolute feckin myth. It never has been and never will be. Stupid poxy joke of a sport.

I fully agree Stey about the "rugby town" bollox however I enjoy rugby league I'm a Saints fan and despise that lot that lodge in our stadium!

Don't forget the 1000's of eggies that come into town from local towns that hasn't got team of their own, look at the M61 motorway junctions at Orrell and Standish and the M61 / A6 at Blackrod after they have had a big game, there are loads heading home, then there are the worrier fans that also support football teams usually the scousers or utd.

Fixtures that have to be played , in competitions that basically no one is interested .. you couldn't pay me to go ! Meanwhile , you were playing for a chance to go to to Wembley .. which AGAIN will record a sub capacity attendance .. Toulouse v Catalans would be laughable .. remember your game against Widnes many years ago , balmy August evening , 5.00 pm kick off ..what was it ..6500 on .. my only concern about your ' sport ' disappearing , would be the effect , financially , on us re the maintenance costs of the stadium , solely .

But worriers measure their fan base on how many turn up on good Friday v saints or if they get to Wembley and the 50k they then claim support them.

Yet only muster a couple of thousand for semi finals at far flung Warrington or Doncaster

Love it when the red V fans chant....You're only here cos it Saints, to piss them off! 🤣🤣🤣
That is a quote many football teams claim , including us, think there was an even a rendition from the east stand on Saturday, including the Bradford fans singing the same in reply, it is all good tongue in cheek banter.

However in the case of the lodgers it is ABSOLUTLEY TRUE, it is the only game of the season a very large number of them attend.

I thought Saturday was excellent great away following and decent numbers in the home end the support is there for us i don't see why we couldn't get that level of support in the home end every week but the club have got to get there arse in gear and market the games better with offers or even give free tickets out to one of the big high schools each home game for the south stand the performance atmosphere from Saturday surely will bring some of punters on free tickets back in the coming home games
