Football Gambling

I see Wayne Shaw's pie eating stunt has brought football gambling into the spotlight. Obviously, it's against the rules for him to gamble but it's not for his family and friends.

I guess advertising gambling was illegal when I was young. I don't remember ever seeing ads for it. My dad's not interested in gambling either so it wasn't part of my world growing up.

Watching totally legal live streams from the UK, it always shocks me how much gambling advertising there is on TV back home.

I'm not pro or anti gambling. There is a huge casino here on top of a hill near Kuala Lumpur. It's the home of Genting although in general, gambling is illegal. I go there one or twice a year for fun but it's just entertainment for me.

Gambling is so heavily advertised in the UK. It's marketed as a normal part of watching football. That's not true for me but I'm curious as to whether it is for you.

So do you bet on football normally?

I put the odd pound on here and there, sometimes on the Villa, usually on a 6 or 7 game 'acca' in the vain hope of winning £25 grand.

It's certainly not a habit, or even a regular occurrence. But you're right about the advertising, it's shocking! Pretty much every commercial break begin with Ray Winstone's gurning mug telling us the latest in play odds, or next scorer or whatever. They finish the ads with some platitude like "When the fun stops, stop!"

I tend to zone out when the ads are on, but when you think about it, there are those stupid ads with Chris Kamara, the annoying Scouse idiot and his blonde sidekick and a number of others I can't immediately recall. Way too much exposure to the gambling industry to my mind.

All this 'tap, tap, boom' and stuff makes it all too easy to press a few buttons on your phone and suddenly, you're 20, 30, 40 quid worse off without really realising.

i'll throw a fiver on 2-4 teams now and again.

Won £50 Monday night. I had Spurs and United to win on the sunday and then Arsenal and Newcastle to win on the Monday.

I wont do one now for a while.

I gamble on football and golf regularly.

Nothing major... £5 here, £10 there... and I've convinced myself that eventually it all evens itself out.

Probably went though a phase of not winning anything big for months.

Last 2 weeks I'm £400 up.

So it's swings and roundabouts, but I enjoy it. Adds an extra interest for me if I'm watching a game, or Soccer Saturday with Jeff and the boys.

Plus, you don't bat an eyelid or get down in the dumps when you lose a fiver, but you get a good feeling of elation when you win £200.

I'm a bit lazy with it. Deano sometimes does the free bet stuff for me, sometimes in the business we do a betting campaign and it's worth me signing up and having a flutter, but generally I only like silly odds to win big money. You rarely win with silly odds and even more rarely win big money. So more often than not, I just don't bother.

Yeah i din't really think it's the kind of thing you can expect to get rich off, unless you're prepared to risk a lot.

I do it more for the fun. Like I say, if I'm bored on a Tuesday night and there's a game on TV I wouldn't usually be interested in, whack a fiver on and it makes it watchable.

I guess I could just turn the TV off completely and talk to Nat.... but why would I wanna do that? lol

Every day, but only on football. I don't go near horses or the likes.

It's just for fun. I throw a tenner into my Betfair account on average once a month and put 50p bets or even 25p bets on accas and keep my account topped up, winning bits here and there. I won almost 600 quid over 2 weeks last year from doing that.

I like the special bets too, my favourite is over 3.5 goals, 10.5 corners and 4.5 cards in a game, makes any game on TV twice as exciting for me, last night was a blast! Always good odds, last night was 10/1 on the City game.

I think gambling is too frowned upon by society. For most people it's just a bit of fun. For a few people it becomes a problem, just like drink, drugs and anything else you get a buzz off.

When I finished college and was unemployed I gambled 3,000 in 2 months but it only evened itself out I was up $100 in the end. For me personally in game gambling was the usually the most successful but I had some golf and racing flurries in it too.

International accumulators were always my nearly bets, I dont think you find as many upsets in international football with that said I never ever won one. Biggest win $800 and biggest loss was $400 (yes I bet $400 on a single game and its when I stopped).

Interesting - apparently 11 of the 20 PL clubs are sponsored by gambling organisations....

We went to Pontifract for a Fathers Day race card, I had no trouble having cash t bet with on the day, best bet of the day was a horse at 200/1 I never backed it but the wife said "at 200/1 its worth a couple of quid"

It finished 200 yards behind everyone else :59:

Just as a foot note we had a great day and the locals call Pontifract "Ponticarlo" :59:
