Football During Coronavirus Crisis

Wolves v Watford and Liverpool v Leeds off on Boxing Day. Covid in the Leeds and Watford camps apparently, which must put our game with them on the 28th in doubt.
So much for Leeds being all double jabbed, I suppose testing positive is enough even though they probably won't get symptoms

This week the meeting between all 20 Premier League managers and the people who run the greed league ended with the club managers feeling frustrated with comments like "It was like talking to a brick wall" "If I have to be honest, it was a meeting that we tried to speak and some coaches tried to speak, to ask about solutions but I think everything was decided," added Conte

Norwich boss Dean Smith added: "We went into a [Premier League managers'] meeting yesterday where the decisions had already been made, so I think we had already missed the boat in terms of decision making. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/59781300

Steven Gerrard said before the meeting it will be a “nightmare” if the club have to tackle two matches in three days with only 14 players available and that was before he himself will be missing for 10 days.

I'm finding myself getting increasingly fed up with how the greed leagues bosses are bending over backwards to please the TV paymasters and consistently showing complete disregard towards fans with ridiculous timing of games etc.

I heard our own CEO Christian Purslow on Talksport last month bigging up and brownnosing the people that manage the Premier League and to be honest, he left me thinking how he sounds just like one of them and how disappointed I was to hear our own CEO talking like that

Thank you If you have got this far with my rant, however you will have gathered right now I'm throughly feed up with football in England and how it's all about the money and bollocks to anyone else which leaves me feeling the lot of them can go and F**K Off.

Spot on TH.

There is no way if the I am able to go and there is first team league match at VP will I not attend. But all week I have been hoping todays game be postponed. The whole situation is a farce, not fair and doesn’t take anyone into account apart from the money men. I don’t purchase a ST to watch a team of reserves or u23 or whatever you call them. Yes injuries/illness happen, yes SG could have been ill from something else today but the covid situation is unique and has caused issues beyond the run of the mill injuries and illness. This has made the situation unfair and clubs will be potentially losing millions because of these decisions if they end up relegated. Managers might even lose their jobs when they are dealing with things out of their control.

Let alone it being against a backdrop of restrictions ongoing and in all likelihood coming in stricter after tomorrow.

Football is an entertainment industry and for me the show must go on if at all possible. These days with squads of 25 that should be possible and one person’s unavailability is another person’s opportunity.

If the entertainment industry treated its customers how the Premier League treats its customers by changing dates and times of shows, films etc just to suit themselves and with total disregard and causing major inconvenience for paying customers then they would rightly get what's coming and go bust.

The current situation with many players out through covid is like going to a top west end show only to find the main stars aren't going to appear instead you will watch a lineup of stand-ins.

The general public wouldn't put up with it so why should football supporters be taken for granted that they will?

Well I think today’s match has been in the diary for some time and there’s never a guarantee who you will see play due to manager’s pick and injuries. We’ve given our season tickets to my daughter and grandchildren today and they are so excited about going. I’m not a fan of the greed league but if there wasn’t that sort of money floating around in it the world class players that we do see would be performing on a stage in some other country.

Yeah that is a great and noble philosophy that will not stand up with the modern fan who demands instant everything. Short termism is rife not just on here but all over. Say we go the next 3 or 4 games losing because we are fielding an under strength/ under quality side. I guarantee the knives will be getting sharpened.

I think you’re right and the show not going on probably saved us from relegation first year up. But that’s not for me. Have five subs if you like, but I still say with a squad of 25 you have to play if you have 13 fit players otherwise what’s the point in having them all?

Yep, they play on billiard table perfect pitches, special diets every mod con under the sun, monitored 24/7 in every aspect of fitness but they can't play 2 games in 3 days without resting players. I get the game has changed but people haven't .
Villa won the league with basically the same team all season on a ploughed field of a pitch and 42 games. Surely 25 players can manage 4 fewer games over that same time frame. I mean I keep getting told how much fitter players are these days, Are they really? Fitter and softer certainly.
Nobody wants to play weak players but all ours are much of a muchness except Martinez
